I'm going to end up rereading homestuck to review this play.
gabrielsfeatherybutt Do you have a preference as to whether I reply to your ask publicly or privately? I’ve already asked 26021992 a few questions about what their preference is in how I review the play as a whole is but they haven’t replied yet. (It hasn’t been a day yet so I’m not surprised, not everyone is on tumblr as much as I am.) I do not think the atUsername works on my version of mobile tumblr but by god I am trying anyway. It didn't work but I fixed it once my laptop started working.
what was the breach of canon that wasn't okay? I saw it too, I'm just curious~
I wrote that post at intermission, so I’d yet to see the second half that I frankly felt was full of chronological inaccuracies among other things. I’ve actually been contacted by someone on the team for those posts since the search system ratted me out even though I didn’t tag anything. I appreciate that, though. Can’t improve without critique.
The one I was talking about though is probably still the one that bothered me the most: Vriska saying that Tavros abandoned her to crawl to her quest bed on her own. No, Tavros took her to her quest bed and weenied out when he actually had to kill her. They’d just spent a long time together leveling up. Tavros wasn’t such a coward that he couldn’t take her to her quest bed. The conversation that happened in the play - her begging him to kill her and not make her wait to bleed out - was a thing that happened on her quest bed. I was confused until I realized what Vriska was saying and then I was horrified.
From my point of view, it felt like a deliberate act to victimize Vriska and lessen her black knight status, as well as demonize Tavros. All of her terrible actions against him were cut apart from her crippling him, which was minimized as it was told from her point of view, and her eventually killing him, which was, as it is in canon, a reaction against him trying to kill her. The only characterization I recall seeing from Tavros was his relationship with Vriska (being crippled by her, abandoning her, trying to kill her) and some hand holding with Gamzee. It lessened both of their characters.
Ok so second half of the musical shit on the chronological order of events in canon and everyone seemed to be so incredibly lost. It started with act 6 and went through cliffnotes of what happened then flipped back to the events leading up to eoa5 and touched on eoa5. I was so confused and distressed.
So far pretty alright for an amateur musical with a little too much liberty with headcanons but that’s alright, there was a breach of canon that wasn’t okay though :( :/
Sitting waiting for the homestuck musical, this is hopefully gonna be good
