I watched Happy of the End (H.O.T.E.) yesterday and I can’t form sentences about it right now.
Other than saying I loved it, I just want to say I hope the dude who played Maya won an Oscar or the Japanese equivalent because that performance was… ya’ll… he WAS that character.
Asari Yosuke, sir, when people study acting in the future they just need to watch your performance. It’s like watching your first movie with Gary Oldman or something.
Listen, scary people are very hard to portray. Truly scary people - the ones that leave you spiraling out wondering how they became that way. The ones who make you physically uncomfortable - even being on the other side of the screen is too close. Usually even when you have a very unhinged character and a tremendously good portrayal of them by an actor - you still subconsciously register it as a performance. But not with this guy… he made it seem like they just found this insane, drug addled freak on the street and just let him wander around in a dark BL drama.
The character Maya was one of the scariest people I have ever seen on screen.
