Facts About Niobe Carter-Stretton
Niobe is the daughter of two muggles from Brighton. Since young age it was easy to guess that she would become a bookworm. The girl felt at home surrounded by books, and loved to asks complicated questions to her parents about how the universe works or why those things happens that way.
Her Hogwarts letter was delivered by Pomona Sprout, head of Hufflepuff at that time. Niobe had a really hard time to believe on what the old woman told her and her parents, because it looked too much with a fairy tale to her taste. The witch had to do a series of magic to prove Niobe that she was speaking the truth.
She was sorted at Hufflepuff. At first, Niobe didn’t understood why, since the girl never had too many friends to begin with, but after a couple of weeks it was clear that she was at the right house. She joined dueling club, chess team and the quidditch team, but her favorite activity was the studying of ancient runes. They somehow helped her to understand better how magic itself works and how every branches were connected.
Niobe was attending on the wizard campus of St. Andrews University when Voldemort took control of the Ministry of Magic, she fought alongside with the Phoenix Order against Death Earters and almost lost a semester for that.
She started to teaching at Hogwarts as soon she graduated as Assistant Teacher of professor Vector. Niobe had several working offers, including working as ancient runes specialist of Department of the Mysteries, but she wanted to help Hogwart rise again after the war. It was around her first year as the main teacher of Ancient Runes that she met her husband William Stretton. They married three years later and already has a 4 year old little girl that goes by the name of Hermione. They are one of the a few teachers that lives outside the castle, in Hogsmeade
Her biggest virtues as teacher is be sympathetic to students' problems and always give second chances while her biggest flaws are sometimes, she gets lost in her own thoughts and has the tendency of expect too much from the students of her house.
She is in favor of the Hogwarts Rejects, even believing that they might bring a lot of trouble to the school.
Relationships
Minerva McGonagall - Minerva always saw Niobe with good eyes and cogited the teacher to take the position as Deputy Head a couple of years ago, but gave to Gaia instead. Until this day, Niobe wonders why the headmistress gave the job to the head of Slytherin.
Hecate McLaggen - Niobe and Hecate were friends, at least until William decided to create Singing Salamander Choir. Hecate felt betrayed, since she used discussed with Niobe about muggle songs and how to make the performances better with magic. Niobe thinks she’s being childish, and that there’s nothing wrong with a litttle competition.
Sheldon Cattermole - Niobe was the capitain of the dueling club when Sheldon first joined it. They became instant friends, even after she went to college, it was like they were never apart. He was her best man during the wedding. However Niobe feels that since her wedding, Sheldon is a bit distant from her, but might be just impression.
Emily Royer - Niobe and Emily are rivals, Mostly because Niobe thinks Emily should be more inclusive while the other believes that Niobe is too nice and making the students lazy by the amount of help she gives to them. Also Niobe is a bit jealous of the crescent friendship between Emily and Sheldon.
William Stretton - Niobe and William met each other on college while she was studying the effects of ancient runes on seers’ predictions. They got along pretty well and got out for a couple of dates before losing contact. They reconnected again when she went to teach at Hogwarts, and their ended married and with a 4 year old child. She doesn’t understand why other teachers seems to have a intense dislike for her husband but she is supportive on everything he does.
Gaia Goshawk - She and Gaia are surprisingly friends. Niobe admires the woman for her bravery and smartness since the war days. Although she doesn’t get why Minerva picked Gaia instead of her as deputy head, the Ancient Runes teacher knows that she still have plenty of time to conquer the position. She only twist her nose to the head of slytherin when Gaia claims that William is a fraud
Neville Longbottom - Niobe fought alongside Neville in battle of Hogwarts, and she was happy to see he was assuming professor Sprout place. She drops by his office once in a while to chit chat a little and makes her glad to see the students has somebody to look it up to.
