In Greek Mythology, Niobe was a queen of Thebes and mother to anywhere between 12-14 children (sources vary). She boasted that she was superior in motherhood to the goddess Leto, who only had two children... The Olympians Artemis and Apollo.
The divine twins could not abide by such insult to their mother and struck down the children of Niobe one by one from on high with their arrows.
Niobe is depicted in the Archaic style in the border of the illustration, across from Leto, mourning the loss of her children as they are felled by the arrows of Artemis and Apollo.
How do you think Perse would affect Artemis' myths? Like, would Perse beat Orion's ass? Would she be pissed at Artemis for killing a bunch of children in her mother's name?
there are a bunch of versions of orion's myths, but for the purpose of not having a messy ass timeline, imma say orion in particular was after artemis. they hunted together for a bit and it drove perse insane since she knew how the story ended
eventually, he snuck into artemis' tent, trying to pass her boundaries, and, surprise surprise, she wasn't there. she was at camp half blood, comfily sleeping. perse, though, had known the time was coming, so she was wide awake and very much ready to send a venomous scorpion after him
artemis found out the morning after, and she was pretty pissed, mostly because she didn't get to be the one to punish him for his attempt, so she turned both him and the scorpion into a constellation, to be forever chased by it and as a warning for anyone who even thought to attempt the same thing
about niobe, im torn between it happening before perse was born and having it be a pretty big fight between them
perse obviously knew that it was going to happen, she knew the myths, knew perfectly well that the gods are not human, that they are forces of nature that simply act and that hubris is one of the most rataliated against crimes, especially trying to go after leto when her kids are as terrifying as they are
she was still not quite ready to fully face it. she understood that they could not let those kind of claims slide, much less when niobe was asking to be worshipped instead of leto, but there were other ways
artemis is baffled about why she's mad, since it seems kind of normal to her, until she goes to talk to hestia, who's probably the most like perse in terms of heart. after, she doesn't exactly feel bad, she still thinks she's justified, but she does understand perse's point of maybe taking it too far. she apologizes for not considering it and perse does forgive her after some time. she still refuses to sleep with artemis for a whole decade though, make her point clear.
that, artemis is very much not pleased about, much less when in the last few years perse makes a point out of teasing her, make her think the dry spell is over just to leave
artemis clearly does not pull any more shit like that afterwards. 10 years was more than enough
iphigenia, is one of the examples where artemis pulls herself back. she does demand she be sacrificed and makes her father think he's lost her daughter, but does the swapout thing with a deer and takes her into her hunt. perse is mildly pleased she's learnt not to punish the children for the actions of their parents
if the moon shines a bit brighter that night, it's definitely not because perse is absolutely covering artemis with kisses. that'd be nonsense, of course
recently rewatched HBO Rome s1 and it has many people with excellent faces. these were done in Krita with a brush that might be my new favourite thing.
