NEW VILLAIN INTRO– THE ALP
The Alp, in many cases, is considered a demon, and is best known for its shapeshifting abilities, similar to the creatures from werewolf lore. It may change into a cat, pig, dog, snake, white butterfly, or wolf. It has also been said that it can fly like a bird and ride a horse.
As is the case with werewolves, sometimes a normal human may become an Alp during the night. They are typically unaware of their nocturnal activities and are invariably in disguise while doing so. Sometimes an Alp is a spirit summoned by a witch or an evil person wishing harm on another, and sent to torment them. Tricking an Alp may lead a person to its master.
Victims wake up unable to move under the Alp’s weight (may be an early explanation for sleep paralysis and night terrors), and may include lucid dreams where the victim can actually get hurt from what happens to them in the dream, it attacks during the night and controls dreams, creating horrible nightmares, associated with drinking blood from animals while they are sleeping (this could technically work on supernaturals), if it scars a human then it becomes bonded to them, and has a hat called a Tarnkappe that acts as a veil and gives the Alp the ability to be invisible when worn. The hat is visible in all of the Alp’s forms. The Alp also possesses an “evil eye” whose gaze will inflict illness and misfortune. To a certain extent the Alp can also manipulate its victims while they are awake.
Some say that removing the Alp’s evil eye removes its malicious intentions, and covering any holes (such as key holes) before sleeping will keep the Alp out. They can only leave a room through the original entrance, and a light kept on constantly at night will also effectively ward off an Alp. And if the Alp is caught by someone who is not under the Alp’s influence (such as someone who is not sleeping), it may be driven away temporarily.
admin note: as you guys can see, this will be our new villain plot! me and hannah have been working on this for awhile and wanted to make sure we had a really solid idea before posting, but here is everything you need to know about the alp! the “wolf” that has been spotted around town is actually the alp, to avoid any confusion. this is meant to give players context, but our characters won’t be fully aware of all of this information right at once. please make sure to read all of the abilities so there’s no confusion, as we’ve added a bit of our own twists! remember the characters do not know yet, this is just for context. more plot drops will come later as it will get more clear what the big bad really is. reach out if you have any questions!
