cause of accountability reasons and cause habitica is making me do this cause of a challenge I will be watching all of one piece in 2025
all 1100 episodes and what ever new episodes come out to
why am I like this-
This year, I've decided to have a new year's resolutions: I'm going to make a quilt. I found a really simple, hand-sewn quilt guide. I plan on picking up all the materials from a local quilting shop and, hopefully, befriending the owner and learning some skills from her.
I'm thinking about keeping a simple log of activities here just for myself and to hopefully motivate me to actually make it happen! I'm excited to see where this project takes me.
I'm never one to share new year's resolutions but hey! Trying new things is not bad!
Last year, I found out that I have knee problems (not enough cartilage in the joints) and it really put a dump on my exercise goals and schedules. I hadn't done exercise for like 6 months which I hated so so much. Especially as an artist, it's important to stay active!!
I'm starting out this year by doing exercises that work with my knees. One of them is Yoga. Now I've done Yoga in the past but I only did it for a period of time. This time I really want to carry the practice throughout the year. So that is one of my goals for 2024!
I'm using this app called @habitica which is like an RPG type of habit tracker that gamifies the whole task and habit tracking thing. This post is part of a new years challenge from there. It's pretty fun actually. I'm AlexAlexinii on there as well ;)
I've decided I'm going to do a retrospective on the way my productivity has been over the past year. I might have otherwise waited until the end of January but felt compelled to do it now for several reasons.
So, back in January 2023, after the December mod strike and ensuing staff... behavior... on Habitica (more here: wiki page, one, two, three (last not my post)), I decided to give Amazing Marvin a try. (This isn't an ad for Amazing Marvin or anything, even though I love its features! I will link to Amazing Marvin, though, for reference.)
I loved it so much that after its 30-day trial (and trial extension), it only seemed right to pay for it and continue using it.
I've been feeling like I've been getting so much more done over the past year! Habitica had stopped working for me for a few reasons (not an inherent issue with Habitica's design, just that it no longer worked right for me--I'd even been trying "band-aid" new productivity methods before anything had even happened on Habitica, because I'd recognized the problem even then but hadn't wanted to leave). BUT! Marvin is so customizable I've been able to use it to get so much more done and more clearly organize my goals! I've gotten things done that were languishing in my Habitica to do's for years! I'm doing the dishes more regularly! I'm cleaning my shower/bathroom more regularly! I'm better able to plan out what I'm supposed to do next for the app I'm coding! And track time on the tasks I do! I love tracking time! And check the time estimates on what I'm doing against how much time I give myself in a day so I don't overschedule myself! There are so many features and I'm so happy to have a setup that works for me! And if that setup stops working, I could always shift gears within Marvin and try something new and see if a new setup works for me instead!
In the spirit of this being January, I'm going to share my current goals, even though I wouldn't really call them "resolutions":
Finish coding my app by end of year (or hopefully earlier)
Finish konmari-ing by end of March (the actual declutter/discard/keep portion has already been 99% done, I'm in organization town now)
Do something for Disability Day of Mourning (March 1) and have an eye toward coordinating a vigil for DDoM in 2025
Finish my advance directive and last will and testament
Pay off my smallest student loan (the one that's, like, $600) by end of year
(Only the first three are actually goals in Marvin. The fourth is two separate sequential projects (collection of tasks), and the fifth isn't in there at all. XP But they're still my goals!)
Sometimes I wish things might have gone differently with Habitica, that staff might have decided to do better. But the way things are now is pretty great, actually, because maybe it's what spurred me to stop sticking with something that was no longer working purely for sentimental reasons. And now I'm getting more done! I'm not just going through the motions!
Here's to a great 2024!
2023 Goal Planning
kk doing this cause I'm really trying to be goal-oriented and focused in 2023. been using Habitica for a while now and it really is super helpful and fun :)
instead of typing everything out I’m just putting a pic here lol:
let’s see how we do at the end of the year! will be fun to look back on this and see how I did
My Habitica Character Prometheus at the start of his journey. About to beat up some dust bunnies.
This year, I’m going to use Habitica for my New Year resolution shiz. An RPG is probably the only thing to keep this lazy nerd on point.
Resolutions:
- Update graphic novel weekly
- Practice Archery, drawing, and writing daily
- Ace my ACT by practicing daily
- Finish my trilogy
