The Habitversary blog is now closed. The Habitversary challenges were run by Habitica moderator Cantras (hello). The volunteer moderators sought social contact with the paid staff [so they would see we were trustworthy and human] and more recognition of our work/skills [in the sense of "run ideas by us because we know the community well enough to judge reaction" and in the sense of "could you please say thank you when we handle stuff for you"]. Habitica has decided that it will no longer have volunteer moderators, taking moderation duties in house. I wish them the best, but the Tavern is an Eternal September disaster area without mods having a frequent eye on it, and looking at it stresses me out. Also this whole extended thing has put some baggage/bad-taste on the company in general. So I'm not using Habitica anymore, or running the challenges. And this is a side blog off my blog, so if someone wanted to resurrect the challenges, they'll need their own blog.

My Eighth Habitversary

Another year, another @habitversary​​.

My tasks at my day job have changed more in the past year so that I no longer have as many Dailies from work, and the office ones don’t apply at the moment because I’m still working from home full-time (which really suits me), but somehow I think my list has still grown from all the other personal things I’ve added, like voice practice and additional skincare routines.

4th Habitversary in 2020

To avoid missing and delaying this report (like the last times), I'll try to make this short.   I'm STILL recovering from a burnout, despite my consistent last Perfect Days. I have transferred almost all my personal Tasks to the 2nd account, and it's working great (no Perfect Days there yet, tho * ).   Last year I was more lost than now. I feel more passion, more focus, more motivation. Tho, I still feel lost, and anxious because "there's so much to do, so little time". I am becoming addicted to Facebook again, and fighting it currently.   As a Habitican helper and bug hunter, I am very happy that (as I suggested) now the Task Search function works like the site: this looks like a simple thing, but it's actually a powerful fix:   The Task Search function now allows us to find any word/number/symbol/emoji (yes!) in the Tasks title and also in the description of each task!!!   **Here's a tip:** Define a symbol (Examples: `&$£#*@€{}[]¹²³ńæ`) that you don't use in any Task (title and description), and insert that symbol in the description of all the Tasks you need to prioritize. Type the symbol in the search, and you’ll  filter instantly the Tasks you need.   And to clean the filter, just delete that symbol from the search bar!   Another example: I usually do the Pomodoro Technique, and I have several Tasks for that, with the 🍅 `tomato` emoji in the Title, Description, or Checklist. Now I just need to start writing `:tom` and my needed Tasks are filtered!   I hope this helps you to find your tasks faster, it's definitely help me with mine.   There's also a main difference between this report and previous ones. While I was writing it, I defined some rules for 3 similar long period resumes that I usually do:   New Year Resume, Habitversary, and Starting a New Adventure.   They are now better defined, they were very confusing before.   I also realized that BardoVelhoII was created in 15/04/2017, which was 3 years ago. It's a very different account today than when it started. I'm pleased to make it work better in this day and age of pandemic. It really helps me to focus on what  really matters and to do not derail. (*) - I'm currently in my (first ever) second Double Perfect Day, with both of my accounts... and completing a third, tonight! Nearing the end of my seventh(!) Habitversary, and I'm happy to say I think I've accomplished a lot in the last year. I think I'm keeping deadlines better than ever before (which isn't always very good! but still!) and I feel like I'm getting more done. (Not all of that is Habitica's doing, but Habitica has felt like an instrumental part of the equation!)

A goal I have for this year is to try to have an app I'm working on as close to ready to release as I can manage, and it feels like I'm ahead of schedule! (I have the most basic minimum functionality of the app working as I was hoping it would, far ahead of schedule! It almost feels too good to be true! Or at least like I might need to up my goal. Maybe I can pepper in other coding goals, like the one I have to do a few pull requests for Habitica this year, or the thing I keep pushing aside about trying to link Habitica and Outlook together more closely because I use Outlook to time block my schedule, so pairing them would push me to get more done on both ends. As it is, importing my Habitica to dos into Outlook has been helping me plan to get the large backlog of them done, ever so incrementally! Why are all my other non-app coding ideas/goals Habitica related? XD)

...Outside of coding, my goal to completely declutter my room is going a bit rockier, but I'm sure I'll get there! I do have to dos (and Outlook tasks) set up to remind and support me in making sure I'm at least trying for forward progress!

**For the #Habitversary Challenge: February Edition**   

I joined Habitica two years ago on February 9! I normally never stick with productivity apps for more than a week, so I was really surprised how I stuck with Habitica for two years now :P

I've come a long way since then! Picked up basics of two more languages, learned uke, tried daily tasks with my non-dominant hand, got back into reading, learned sight reading & absolute pitch, got into my dream university with a scholarship, and joined a wonderful party through which I met great people who help me stay productive! 🎉Here's to more years of productivity through Habitica! ❤️

Today is my first Habitversary, and in the past year, I’ve managed a lot, which is wild to me given how I used to be.

Mid-2019 I didn't have any interests besides planning ahead, I loved to plan, and I had plans to hang out with friends and family a lot, seeing people took up most of my time, but when I was at home? Video games, speedruns, and boredom. I saw my SO productively studying Japanese every day and I was jealous, but I had no motivation. At the end of 2019, my SO remembered an app he'd used a few years back called Habitica. He joined again with a few of his friends/old party members to help motivate him. I took a bit more convincing, but finally joined in. Boy, am I glad I did.

This may come across as bragging and I apologize, as I know it has been a tough year for everyone. Not seeing my friends and family has sucked, but...this is the first time I focused on myself and not others. On present and not future. I tried to make the most of the extra time at home (although I still worked) and I was amazed at how much I managed to do with extra time on weeknights alone, so please bear with me. -I started with a daily to floss every day and now it is a habit, I deleted that daily a month ago and still do it.   -I wrote 500 words a day every day and I finished a novel and now have several more ideas, 3 of which I've already started working on.   -I have worked out every day this year (besides 1 rest day) and went for a walk everyday until snow hit.   -I started lifting 1 lb dumbbells halfway through the year and now I can bench a 15kg (33lb) bar.   -I started a journal and have been journaling every day since March.   -I started reading books that I had long forgotten on my bookshelf (I did not count how many, but I will keep track this year). -I learned to play a few songs on the ukulele.   -I set a reminder to save some money every month and while I'm not at my goal, I have more saved than ever.   -I started a skin care routine and have managed to keep it up. Also started working on my skin picking habit, which is still a work in progress.   -Heck, I even started learning Japanese, the thing I was jealous of, with a 160 day streak on Memrise, 152 day streak on Duolingo, and a Genki textbook right next to me at my computer!  

Due to a love for challenges, I have learned so much! I celebrate a holiday every day, I've seen operas, I've watched philosophy videos, I've learned about Japanese history, I've baked new recipes, I made a guild to motivate me to watch childcare webinars to further my education on my career a bit, all sorts of things I never would have looked into if it wasn't for Habitica! Also, with Covid starting a few months after my journey, learning all of these new things has kept me sane through quarantine by helping me achieve my goals while also giving me more things to satisfy my newfound craving for productivity. I can't thank Habitica enough for being such a varied and welcoming community.

Another year, another @habitversary​​.

Somehow, my list of Dailies gets longer each year. In the past year, I have been working from home, and it meant having more routine than ever before, and therefore also more tasks to track on Habitica.

There has been some turnover in my party too. I'm a bit disappointed that the former members left without saying goodbye. Oh well.

 This year has been crazy for all of us, because so much has happened recently, and I'd like to thank Habitica and it's wonderful community for making my life easier and completing my daily tasks more fun. Summer was especially hard for me because I didn't know my limits and during the start of the Schoolyear and 2020, in general, had drastically overworked myself. While I had been working, my diet, room, relationships, grades and mental health were a huge mess. During my burnout, I had also developed an eating disorder, that did not benefit my mental or physical health at all. Later in the year I watched a video by a YouTuber HowTo ADHD and there she mentioned an app called Habitica and this wonderful app has helped me also during the few months that I have been a part of this community. During my burnout everything seemed somewhat meaningless and boring, because my work and passion had been drowned out by fatigue, boredom and loneliness. I was really desperate to get some work done and finally decided to check the app out after another YouTuber Thomas Frank also mentioned it in one of his videos. This app has majorly improved my life, my room is a lot cleaner, I  have finally gotten the help I needed, my relationships have gotten a lot better and I find communicating with others more enjoyable than before, I've met some amazing, like minded people on Habitica, that motivate me to do better everyday. Currently I'm still taking a break form work and just trying to get my life together as much as possible and Habitica is helping a lot with that, the cute pets and defeating the Evil monsters from quests motivate me a lot. I'm so happy, that I had decided to join this wonderful , hardworking and positive community of incredible people! I'm oh, so thankful for this app and all of the opportunities it has given me!
