Percy could be quite the persistent person when he wanted to—maybe it was his ADHD, or maybe it was just Percy. Either way, when the boy set his mind on something, there was no way of convincing him to stop. Like that one time he had insisted he could pick your ration of the strawberries while you rested your injury, only to end up with a severe sunburn from the extra hours of work.
It was no surprise when he practically broke into your cabin, stating that he was going to teach you how to surf. His offer was—of course—only met with objection; getting Percy Jackson to drag you into the water with him was definitely not a good idea. Sometimes it seemed like he forgot that not everyone was physically unable to drown like him.
The only way he got you to agree to his lessons was by making a deal. If you allowed him to teach you how to surf, he would let you teach him everything about astronomy. As a child of Hades, you sure had a lot of knowledge about that, and having someone to rant to was nice, so you eventually agreed.
Percy was jumping up and down as he dragged you from his mom’s car to the beach, an unmistakable, mischievous smirk playing on his lips. The turquoise of the sea matched the colour of his eyes—a little quirk you enjoyed about him, how his eyes would always turn the colour of the nearest water source.
Many hours in the water and a lot of trust in your boyfriend’s lifeguarding skills were needed until you managed to actually stand up and surf a few waves. You weren’t a natural—logically—but that didn’t make Percy any less proud. He would peck your cheek between wave and wave as a way to keep encouraging you.
Percy’s weight was leaned on his arms, as he set one hand on each side—one behind your back. The sun was almost completely gone by now, and some faint stars could be seen adorning the sky. The wind blew some of Percy’s still wet strands of hair—being at a mortal beach meant he couldn’t just get into the water and stay dry.
Percy watched you with a light—and somewhat lovestruck—smile as you began your ramblings about the stars. He hadn’t quite imagined you held this much knowledge, but he didn’t mind.
“Right there.” His gaze followed your pointed finger. “You can’t see it all that well, but that’s Perseus.” 'You told him,' pointing at the constellation of his namesake. “I bet that one’s your favourite.” Percy smirked, only to earn a slap in the shoulder from your end.
“You’re always making things about yourself—” you snorted before continuing with your talk. “And, there, though you can only see it in September, is Pegasus.” His eyes only darted to whatever you were showing him temporarily, always returning to your face in just seconds.
Perhaps they stayed on yours for a little too long. Suddenly, he could no longer hear your voice, nor the faint sound of the waves. It was only your eyes, your face, your hair— “Perseus Jackson! Are you even listening to me?” You questioned your boyfriend, giving him a scolding look. “uh, no… sorry…” His head dropped, resting his forehead against your shoulder. “Annabeth is right, you know; you do have seaweed for a brain.” You chuckled, running your hand through his dark hair.
“That’s nice,” he murmured, tracing patterns into the sand with his finger. “Everything is nice here with you. having a day off camp—I really enjoyed that.” He sounded sincere, almost too sincere. You smiled, cupping his face to make him look at you, leaning in to peck his lips.
