HADRIAN Rufus Wainwright with libretto by Daniel MacIvor OCTOBER 13 TO OCTOBER 27, 2018
Emperor Hadrian is devastated after his lover Antinous drowns in the Nile River. While matters of state encroach on his grief, and advisors clamour for war against a radical new threat to the Empire, Hadrian slips out of time to re-encounter the vision and reality of Antinous—and learn the truth about what happened on the Nile.
This highly anticipated world premiere from composer Rufus Wainwright and librettist Daniel MacIvor features the company debuts of opera legends Thomas Hampson and Karita Mattila, and is presented by the same creative team behind the COC’s 2017 production of Louis Riel.
I rewatched the Hadrian Opera and I noticed that Antinous Is the only character who wears white both before and after dying and turning into a God.
During the play, the only other two characters fully clothed in white are Plotina and Trajan, who are already gods (and maybe some background characters, I don't remember).
Then, at the end Hadrian changes his purple robe with a silver one, and we see Sabina with a white tunic, instead of her usual blue, but Antinous is wearing the same white tunic he had when he was alive.
I think it's a cool detail, as if he was always meant to be a god from the very beginning.
They'll play the Hadrian Opera in Italy. I think it's the first time.
I won't go, too far away, I cannot afford It, but that's cool.
Ok, I'll probably post a lot about this opera in the next days, mostly shitposting and other unserious stuff.
And talking about unserious stuff...have you seen how FUNNY Turbo's wtf face is?
