Slutet av dagen, akvarell, 14x9 cm

Efter att ha målat en av mina största akvareller så behövde jag andas ut och göra ett par små.

Det här är en vy längs en av våra hundpromenader. Jag tog ett foto av den för ett par år sen och jag har velat måla den sedan dess. Problemet har varit att jag aldrig har kunnat urskilja färgerna i fotot, hur mycket jag än har tittat på det. Så för två dagar sedan bestämde jag mig för att försöka göra en liten färgstudie av det för att se om jag kunde klura ut dem. Resultatet syns i den andra bilden i det här inlägget, och det stämmer ganska väl överens med referensfotot, men det stämmer inte med min känsla av motivet så jag gjorde ett försök till (första bilden) där jag justerade färgerna och ljuset för att komma närmare minnet av vad jag såg. Kameran är ett trubbigt verktyg utan vårt minne och varje sinne som är kopplat till det (i alla fall för mig som är en kass fotograf).

End of the day, watercolour, 14x9 cm

After painting one of my largest watercolours, I had to exhale and make a couple of small ones.

This is a view along one of our dog walks. I snapped a photo of it a couple of years ago and I've been wanting to paint ever since. The trouble has been that I've never been able to distinguish the colours in the photo, no matter how much I've looked at it. So two days ago I decided to try making a small colour study of it anyway, to see if I could figure it out. The result is the second picture in this post, and it turned out quite similar to the reference photo, but it didn't match my feeling of the subject, so I made another go at it (first picture), adjusting the colours and the light to get closer to my memory of what I saw. The camera is a blunt tool without our memory and every sense connected to it (at least for me who’s a terrible photographer).
