Haggens discriminates against families shopping together
Am 31, tried shopping with sisters at Haggens today. My 27 yo sister tried to purchase some hard cider for her family birthday party this afternoon (with parents, grandma, aunts, uncles, etc). Cashier refused to sell us alcohol because we had brought along our 18 yo sister to grocery store. Tried to explain situation but we were refused. NEVER shopping at Haggens again.
Obviously understand the importance of protecting communities from underage drinking or drunk driving, but punishing families for grocery shopping with relative age 13-20? That's a deal breaker for me.
Seems that cashier/clerk is held liable if alcohol sold to legal adult is then later shared with minor. Or is liable if cashier has reason to suspect that alcohol will be shared with minors, due to presence of minors at time of purchase or minors seen with legal adult at some point before purchase. This seems illogical. And leads to families hiding their teenagers outside and alone, so adult can conduct legal purchase of alcohol which they had no intention of sharing with minor anyway.
Suggest providing waiver for legal adult customers to sign, confirming they will not be sharing purchased alcohol with any suspect minors and therefore relieving store and cashier of any consequential liability. That way families don't feel unwelcome or discriminated against by grocery stores or cashiers.
are we just not gonna talk about the dirty, nasty shit that Albertsons did to Haggens? capitalism is super gross and shady, guys.
