“In a way. I used to run away then climb on a nearby tree and just sit there for several hours before coming back. I definitely was an insufferable brat.”

“No, most of them are just regular friends.”

“I hope it isn't cheating... But I always considered my brother to be my best friend. He is the only person with whom I can be honest about my troubles.”

"I’d say no one. Even I have trouble figuring out some things at times. So I doubt someone else can know everything about me.”
like really I think a lot of the pain in my life comes from wanting to be the kindest and most loving and generous and accepting version of myself and always feeling like I'm failing but simultaneously being "too" kind (by not recognizing + validating my own needs, boundaries, feelings, etc). in order to keep the peace and maintain the comfort of the people I love I am routinely suppressing my own feelings and needs to the point that I don't even know how to recognize them, and then a ton of Emotions just come flooding out when I'm not sober and it makes me seem very unstable because it's often about something small, but really it's just that I have been burying the big things and at some point something has to give, you know?

20. In what ways does your character compare themselves to others? Do they do this for the sake of self-validation, or self-criticism?

Outwardly, Gin is confident to the point of cocky. She exudes an air of coolness as she glides through life.
It’s all an act.
She has never once believed herself worthy of anything good. Any time something good happens, she waits for the other shoe to drop and take it away from her. She is constantly comparing herself to others and wondering why she cannot be like them.
Why can’t she be happy, why can’t she have a stable life? Why should they be happy and stable when she isn’t allowed that?
…why can’t she allow herself that? What is wrong with her that she cannot have that?
She knows the answer to that, and she hates it. “Normal” was never in her cards and she mourns what she never had by comparing herself to what she deems “normal.”
She wants that. But she knows she cannot have that.
