A putrid scent filled the air, setting a trap for each unsuspecting victim.

A door creaked, followed by a violent cough. “Geez. Can’t you put that out? It stinks.”

“Then leave,” a voice snapped.

“Really?” A bitter tone. “I just came to warn you Keiko is coming. Don’t shoot the messenger because you’re in a pissy mood, Yusuke.”

“I don’t give a damn about what Keiko thinks. You know that by now, Mizuko.”

“Wow, full name and everything. What crawled up your butt and died?” Mizuko said deadpan.

Yusuke took a deep breath and blew smoke toward her. Her eyes watered as she coughed into her sleeve, shooting him a death glare.

“What’s the point of coming to school if you’re not even in class?” Mizuko sighed.

“It’s the thought that counts, isn’t it?”

Mizuko glanced at the door, shrugging. “Sure. Just tell that to Keiko.”

“I will. Just. You. Watch,” he grumbled.

Mizuko gave Yusuke a side-eye. A light warmth washed over her, the emotion lingering momentarily before vanishing... To Be Continued -------
