The serious (and sappy) answer is that he’s proud of how far he and Jokasta have come together. When his magic manifested, it seemed like the Maker himself was determined to keep them apart and even after Jokasta joined the Templars, the Order did everything it could to keep them separated in the Circle. Then came the mage uprising and the vote for independence that lead to the Mage-Templar War which tried to drive a wedge between them again. Looking at the state of things, the fact that they’re still together is really something.
The not-so-serious answer is that he is very proud of his extensive knowledge of sex techniques. ;)
☹ - something they regret
He regrets leaving all of his friends behind after the Ostwick Circle was dissolved. One of Jokasta’s Templar friends helped the twins get away right after the news came in so it was all very sudden. Once he’s Inquisitor, he asks Leliana to have her people look for them.
❝ - something they’re always saying
“You can’t expect to take care of other people if you’re not taking care of yourself.”
➹ - Varric’s nickname for them (even if they’ve never met)
Fable is casually Andrastian but she has very little personal experience with the Chantry. As a child, before her magic manifested, Fable would sometimes visit the nearby village with her parents when they had business in town. One of the local Chantry Sisters took pity on her and would entertain her in the Chantry with stories from the Chant while her parents were busy. Fable connected with the stories, especially those about Andraste, and sort of adopted her own version of Andratianism. Being qunari, she never really felt like she belonged in the Chantry but she doesn’t have any strong opinions about it since the way she interprets her faith is very personal. She doesn’t agree with a lot of their decisions but she understands why the Chantry is important to so many people.☹ - something they regret
She tries to live her life without regrets as much as she can because even if a decisions she makes ends up being the wrong one, she can always learn from the experience. Sometimes she does entertain the idea that her life would have been a lot less complicated if she’d just become a farmer or something, but she has to have faith that she was meant to become Inquisitor for a reason.♞ - a time they’ve felt powerful
Fable has felt very powerful ever since she became the Herald and not always in good ways. However, the first time she felt truly powerful, like she could make a difference in the world, was the day she healed one of her fellow mercenaries after they were run through with a sword. It was the first time her magic saved someone’s life instead of ending it.
Gender and Sexuality: Female | Polyamorous Lesbian
Pronouns: she/her
Ethnicity/Species: Vashoth/Qunari
Birthplace and Birthdate: Western Free Marches, 9:14 Dragon
Guilty Pleasures: Taking long, floral-scented baths. She also enjoys cursing but feels bad about it. (She usually apologizes to Andraste afterwards.)
Phobias: She’s afraid of the Saarebas because they’re what she could have been, in another life. She’s also afraid of possession because nothing scares her more than her free will being forcibly taken from her.
What They Would Be Famous For: Being the Qunari Chosen of Andraste who stood in the face of the Qun and stopped their invasion of southern Thedas.
What They Would Get Arrested For: Red Jenny shenanigans with Sera most likely.
OC You Ship Them With: No one yet. Anybody wanna flirt with my girl?
OC Most Likely To Murder Them: Just going out on a limb here but maybe @ourinquisitorialness‘s Ihsaan? Fable blasphemes often and is a mage, two things I’m sure Ihsaan does not approve of.
Favorite Movie/Book Genre: She enjoys adventure stories and mysteries. She is also partial to frightening tales told around the campfire.
Least Favorite Movie/Book Cliche: The Damsel in Distress. She hasn’t met nearly enough women who wouldn’t fight tooth and nail to get out of trouble to support what the vast majority of hero’s tales have tried to make her believe about damsels.
Talents and/or Powers: Being mostly self-trained, Fable is very talented at using magic for practical, everyday purposes. She is particularly adept at healing magic but she also has traditional healing training as well. She’s also really good at gardening.
Why Someone Might Love Them: Fable is kind and earnest and always looks after her own. She has a straightforward and level-headed personality and she doesn’t put much stake in willful deception so you can take what she says at face value. Despite her imposing size, she has a gentle air about her and she enjoys playing games. She is also very skilled at making flower crowns, if you’re into that kind of thing.
Why Someone Might Hate Them: Due to her straight-forward nature, sometimes Fable can be rather blunt and occasionally offensive. Especially if the doesn’t understand the nuances of a situation or she’s frustrated. She also swears a lot when she’s upset which might offend certain sensibilities.
How They Change: Fable really grows more confident over the course of Inquisition. At first, she doesn’t really understand why she is in charge. Sure she has some useful skills but other than the mark on her hand, she is nothing exceptional, and she has none of the skills required to be a leader. Over the course of her time with the Inquisition, she is able to learn that she does have what it take to do all the things she is being asked to do and be more than just the mercenary healer she thought she would always be. She’s also always been self-conscious about being qunari living in a society where she is so obviously other. She knows she’ll always be different from the people who live and fight beside her but the Inquisition gave her more sincere acceptance than she had ever felt previously. In the Inquisition, she found a family.
Why You Love Them: She’s such a sweetheart and is in a perpetual state of confusion as to why she is in charge of anything. She is also just unbearably cute and always has been which I will illustrate with an anecdote. When she was a small baby lesbian just first learning about the Chant, Fable thought that all of the portraits of Andraste were the most beautiful thing she had seen in all of her young life. As a result, she developed a tiny gay baby crush on the Bride of the Maker and prayed to her every night to tell Andraste how her day had been and ask her blessing. This lasted until she was old enough to finally realized that that was not exactly the perpetual love all of the Maker’s children were supposed to share with Our Lady Redeemer. Sera teased Fable mercilessly when she found out.
Character profile for Jokasta and Nikandros (because now you've got me so curious about them haha).
Thanks so much for asking about them! These got kind of long so I put Nikandros under a readmore. I hope it satisfies your curiosity for the time being. ;)
Full Name: Jokasta Trevelyan
Gender and Sexuality: Female | Ace Lesbian
Pronouns: she/her
Ethnicity/Species: Free Marcher, but she has some Rivaini heritage
Birthplace and Birthdate: Ostwick in 9:17 Dragon
Guilty Pleasures: Being a Templar, Jokasta has lived a very practical life since she was 13 but she still loves fine and frivolous clothing even though she cannot in good conscious justify them. Luckily, Josephine helps with that.
Phobias: Her biggest fear is helplessness. She and Cass have that in common.
What They Would Be Famous For: Being the Templar who disbanded and took control of the entire Order.
What They Would Get Arrested For: Jokasta is a very law-abiding person. That being said, she’s been known to get into fights when provoked so she might get arrested for that.
OC You Ship Them With: No one yet, unfortunately! But I’m always open for shipping prospects. ;)
OC Most Likely To Murder Them: I don’t really know. Fable maybe?
Favorite Movie/Book Genre: Epic adventure stories and chivalric romances.
Least Favorite Movie/Book Cliche: She hates when a love interest (or sex in general) is the reward for the hero’s actions.
Talents and/or Powers: Apart from the Anchor, Jokasta is a trained Templar so she has all the usual power granted from taking lyrium. She is also a trained and talented singer from her time being educated for the Andrastian priesthood. She doesn’t sing often however.
Why Someone Might Love Them: She has a very strong sense of responsibility and duty, first and foremost to the Maker and Andraste but to all the people of Thedas whose lives her actions affect. She also cares very much about other people, even if she doesn’t always show it.
Why Someone Might Hate Them: Jokasta plays her cards close to her chest and isn’t very forthcoming with her emotions. She is also very pragmatic and matter-of-fact about things so that can often lead people to believe she is cold-hearted or unfeeling which is entirely untrue. A good example of this is when asked about what she would do if her brother ever became an abomination, she will reply: “I would kill him, of course. He’s my responsibility.” A lot of people take this as callous but in fact, she promised Nikandros that no matter what, she will always do what is necessary to make sure he never hurt anyone under possession. She’s the only person he trusts to do so beyond a shadow of a doubt.
How They Change: There are a few ways Jokasta changes through the course of Inquisition but one of the main ones is that she learns how to orient herself and her beliefs separate but adjacent to what the Chantry and Templars have always taught her. Through most of her life she always had to think of what what done in the Circles was necessary because, at times, to consider otherwise would be too painful. Someone Jokasta loved very much submitted herself to the Rite of Tranquility and the thought that her sacrifice might have been unnecessary is devastating to Jokasta. That being said, by the end of Inquisition she can’t help having some questions as to how things could have been different.
Why You Love Them: I love how much Jokasta cares about her brother and the people around her. It takes her a while to warm up to people but she is fiercely loyal once her trust is gained. I also love her relationship with her faith. Her faith is a very strong motivator and guiding force in her life but she never allows anyone to twist it and try to use it to justify violence or hatred. She’s a very complex person and I love being able to explore those complexities.
Nikandros info under the cut
Full Name: Nikandros Trevelyan
Gender and Sexuality: Male | Bisexual, Gray-aro
Pronouns: he/him
Ethnicity/Species: Free Marcher, but he has some Rivaini heritage
Birthplace and Birthdate: Ostwick in 9:17 Dragon
Guilty Pleasures: Orlesian pastries
Phobias: His biggest fear is losing control and hurting people unintentionally.
What They Would Be Famous For: He was famous in the Ostwick Circle for being the guy who would sleep with anyone who asked. Does that count? He still slept around before becoming Inquisitor so as the Herald he’s probably infamous for that.
What They Would Get Arrested For: General illegal mischief. Vandalism, joy-riding, public sex. Something of that sort.
OC You Ship Them With: I low-key ship him with @hawkeeffect‘s Jack and it’s only getting stronger.
OC Most Likely To Murder Them: Jokasta (This is terrible in the context of their promise but he also just drives her up the wall sometimes.)
Favorite Movie/Book Genre: Hilariously over the top smut. He enjoys giving dramatic readings.
Least Favorite Movie/Book Cliche: Romance when the two parties involved don’t even seem to like one another. Believable chemistry is a must for him.
Talents and/or Powers: He’s a mage, so all of the usual magical talents. Fire is a favorite. He’s also really good in bed and knows a lot of fun tricks and techniques, if you catch my drift.
Why Someone Might Love Them: Nikandros is the kind of person that even people who want to hate him have trouble doing so once they meet him in person. A born extrovert, he has the kind of presence that fills a room and when he talks, people listen. He’s also great with kids and loves to sneak away to entertain the children of the Inquisition with magic tricks.
Why Someone Might Hate Them: He can occasionally be irreverent, especially when someone or something is pissing him off. He uses humor as a coping mechanism so sometimes people can take that the wrong way and assume that he is mocking or belittling when in reality he’s trying to wrap his head around the situation. Niko is also very casual with his magic, using it for small practical matters or to entertain, and that could make some people uncomfortable.
How They Change: Nikandros has always been a protector, there’s very little he hates more than someone who abuses their power, but life in the Circle gave him a relatively small area of influence. He’s always understood and recognized his privileged life but he still had a process of “growing up” after joining the Inquisition. His responsibility as Herald/Inquisitor is central to that growth and as difficult as it is, Nikandros welcomes the opportunity to restore order and make change in the world.
Why You Love Them: I love that Nikandros is very comfortable in his own skin and while he does have doubts and worries, he’s able to overcome them and doesn’t let them hold him back.
4) Who did they look up to the most as a child? Who do they look up to as an adult?
When they were really young, she looked up to Nikandros despite him technically being younger than her. He was the one who was going to become a templar, they both knew that, and Jokasta couldn’t help being in awe and a little bit jealous of that. She didn’t much look forward to the life of a Chantry sister. Niko was also the one who behaved the best and very rarely got reprimanded, but that was mostly because he was better at never being suspected in the first place. Once Nikandros was away at the circle and Jokasta started her Templar training around age 13, she looked up to one of the templars who helped train her. She was an older recruit, 17 years old when Jo started her training, and almost ready to take her vows. She was smart and powerful and so beautiful and little Jo fell for her hard. Jo aspired to be like her all through her training and her first years in the circle. Now that she’s an adult, Jokasta still looks up to Nikandros and everything he’s done/put up with in his life. She knows exactly what happens during a harrowing and he made it through that, plus everything that’s happened since. She’s never going to stop looking up to him. She also has a lot of respect for Leliana and Josephine because they are both powerful women who know how best to wield their power and influence, albeit in different ways. She also looks up to Cassandra for her faith and Cullen for his power and dedication to stop taking lyrium. Even though she still considers herself a templar, part of her is always afraid of what will happen to her in the future. She knows what lyrium does to people. So seeing Cullen make it through does a lot to convince her that she can do it too, when the time comes.
14) What are they like when they are drunk?
Believe it or not, but Jokasta is a happy/giggly drunk. She lets her hair down, so to speak, and cracks a lot of jokes (many of which are considered impolite in mixed company and scandalize Josie to no end when she’s not laughing along). She’s also much more susceptible to outside influences such as being convinced to take part in mischief, something that usually only happens around Nikandros. Sera takes true advantage of that.
25) What do their hands look and feel like?
At first glance, Jokasta’s hands appear pretty delicate. She has long, slender fingers and her fingernails, while short, are well kept. Only upon closer inspection would one notice has calluses from practicing with weapons, mostly swords. She does, however, use salves and lotions to keep her hands as soft as possible, a habit left over from her noble upbringing. Nikandros makes them for her. And when she’s the Inquisitor her left hand has the anchor, obvs.
I assume the twins stuck together after the Circles dissolved, but did they both go to the Conclave? What happens to Jokasta when Niko is Inquisitor, and vice versa?
At first, they did. Neither one of them desired to go rogue or fight one another and they really had nowhere to go, especially not together. In the immediate aftermath, they spent some time lying low at their parents estate but they couldn’t stay there for long because everyone knew who and what they were and they needed to protect their family. They decided that they’d try to find out if there were any mages and templars still loyal to the Chantry and started traveling toward Orlais. Eventually, they heard about the Divine’s conclave and decided that would be their best bet. Either it would end the fighting or at the very least they could find somewhere to go permanently. The moment of truth happens when they flip a coin to decide who is actually going to do the actual spying. They figured it would be more conspicuous if they both tried to sneak into the Temple so only one of them would go. The other would stay in the valley and try to get a sense of which way the wind was glowing with regard to the different groups in attendance. After the explosion, the twins are obviously separated. The twin who didn’t enter go to Temple escapes serious injury but is then faced with an onslaught of demons. They try to fight their way toward the Temple in the chaos to find their sibling but once they learned that no one inside survived, they realize that escape is their only option. If the world really is ending, they would rather be home in Ostwick so they flee. They’re on the run for several weeks before they hear about the supposed Herald of Andraste. Some part of them hopes it could be their sibling back from the dead but they know that it’s beyond reason to hope. Still, they end up staying in that small Fereldan village longer than they should, searching for any news about this Herald. Two weeks later, an Inquisition messenger arrives with a letter from Sister Nightingale and asks for them by name. Beyond relieved to hear that their sibling still lives, they leave with the messenger to join the Inquisition. So yeah, tl;dr they both went to the Conclave but only one was actually at the Temple and the other twin ends up joining the Inquisition after they find out their sibling is alive.
Did Jo and Niko get their matching tattoos together? What made them decide to get them?
They did! They got them after Nikandros passed his harrowing. Their parents pulled some strings to let him come home for a visit and the twins snuck downtown to get them done. (The elder Trevelyans weren’t happy to say the least.) The tattoos were half-celebration and half-a representation of their promise to always look out for one another. The Templars did all that they could to keep them apart in the Circle, conflict of interest and all that, so they wanted something concrete to represent their bond.
This took entirely too long and has so many words. I gave way too many answers.
Harry Potter
Sexuality Headcanon: BisexualGender Headcanon: Cis boyA ship I have with said character: Harry Potter & Draco Malfoy are gay for each other and kiss each other on the mouth, a lotA BROTP I have with said character: Harry & Ron; Harry & Hermione; Harry & Ginny; Harry & LunaA NOTP I have with said character: Harry/Hermione; Harry/Ron (but not, like, super strict)A random headcanon: Biracial Harry Potter with James being either Black or Desi has become my accepted headcanon. I also like the idea of post-War, Harry goes back to living in Grimmauld Place and it sort of becomes the communal house where everybody comes and goes because there’s plenty of room and they help Harry fix the place up. Luna in particular helps Harry re-paint all the rooms and tends to leave little painted designs along baseboards or in corners up by the ceiling for people to find.General Opinion over said character: He is just really fucking lucky, that boy. But yeah, I like him. Quite a lot. Bless his cotton socks.
Ron Weasley
Sexuality Headcanon: Heteroflexible, but y’know, mostly straightGender Headcanon: Cis boyA ship I have with said character: Ron/Hermione; that’s all there isA BROTP I have with said character: Ron & Harry; Ron & LunaA NOTP I have with said character: Ron/Draco i guess?; but pretty much anyone who isn’t HermioneA random headcanon: I don’t... know??? General Opinion over said character: I care a lot about Ron and his role in the Golden Trio/books in general. I can’t fully understand people who don’t like him. Personally, I don’t really have any headcanons about him in particular because I like him as is. He is a universal constant.
Hermione Granger
Sexuality Headcanon: Heterosexual and maybe a little Biromantic?Gender Headcanon: Cis girlA ship I have with said character: see aboveA BROTP I have with said character: Hermione & HarryA NOTP I have with said character: Harry/HermioneA random headcanon: Hermione and Harry bonding over the best ways to manage their ridiculously unmanageable hair while Ron just sits to the side, slightly in awe of the sheer amount of magic (potions and spells) his friends seem to devote to that unending battle.General Opinion over said character: She is the only reason that those dumb boys are still alive. Good job, ‘Mione.
Ginny Weasley
Sexuality Headcanon: PansexualGender Headcanon: Cis girlA ship I have with said character: Ginny/Quidditch career; Ginny/her hot teammates; Ginny/any hot person who comes her wayA BROTP I have with said character: Ginny & Harry; Ginny & Luna; Ginny & NevilleA NOTP I have with said character: ??? i guess endgame Harry/GinnyA random headcanon: I like the idea of Ginny having big boobs and that’s part of the reason she got so much attention from boys while in school. It’s not her fault said boys always made things complicated with all of their manly feelings. Overall, she’s pretty chill in the dating/romance department.General Opinion over said character: She was totally shafted by a lot of the fandom. I will admit that I never really had strong feelings about Ginny Weasley until a couple years ago but I’ve grown to like her a lot. She deserves a long and successful Quidditch career.
Neville Longbottom
Sexuality Headcanon: Asexual, BiromanticGender Headcanon: Cis boyA ship I have with said character: Uh... idk. I like him with Hannah, I guess. I haven’t thought about it much.A BROTP I have with said character: Neville & Ginny, Neville & LunaA NOTP I have with said character: None? see aboveA random headcanon: ??? Sorry, Neville. You can go hang with Ron in the headcanon neglect club.General Opinion over said character: Neville is a badass and no one can tell me otherwise.
Luna Lovegood
Sexuality Headcanon: Pan/Poly; everyone has probably kissed her at some point and she is just the bestGender Headcanon: GenderfluidA ship I have with said character: Luna/Everyone; but actually, I’ve grown rather fond of Luna/DeanA BROTP I have with said character: Luna & Everyone; she is really just best buds with everyoneA NOTP I have with said character: i guess like…. Luna/Draco? Draco Malfoy is a homosexual.A random headcanon: As stated above, everyone in the extended friend group has at some point kissed Luna, they just don’t all know that is the case. Until one New Years when they’re playing truth or dare or whatever and someone is dared to kiss someone they never kissed before and when the ensuing list of previous kissees is revealed there is a snowballing of “Wait, you kissed Luna?” “Yeah, you kissed her too?” “Well, yeah.” “Hold on, so have I.” “Me too!” “I have also kissed Luna.” “Seriously?” “Everyone who’s kissed Luna raise their hand.” “When did you kiss Luna?” “Huh, so have we all kissed Luna?” Until finally it is revealed that every last one of them has snogged Luna, who happily confirms and recalls the story behind each one.General Opinion over said character: I love Luna Lovegood. She is a gift to the world and everyone needs to be friends with her because she is just a really good influence on every last one of these hooligan children.
