I’m writing this portal fic and long story short i need the rundown of the ship. I have not played. Also an explanation of the tf2 character and how they interact would be lovely . Two very different things ik but thanks

I have seen the fringes of the Half Life Ship Discourse and am not getting into it because I find the conversation a little silly (either Freeman is 47 and Too Old for 23-year-old Alyx or Freeman is 27 and Too Young for 43-year-old Calhoun or whatnot? apparently? At the same time? just pick the one you are less Uncomfortable with if it’s that big a deal. Or do like I do and ship him with a good night’s sleep and a proper therapist. And then never give it to him.)

But got me thinking. For folks who put Freeman with Calhoun post-timeskip and keep him at 27, would the dynamic still work with a genderflipped Calhoun? Same story, same character, same scripting etc. just, female Calhoun.

This is an offshoot of the conversation about older women being permitted a romantic narrative in general, a la the aging action stars and their decades-younger on-screen at-home wives in movies. Etc. etc.

If the story works with a male 40-something grey-haired thick-middled war veteran, would it work with a female 40-something grey-haired thick-middled  war veteran?

Half-Life AO3 fun

Doing my part over here, just sent in a contact form requesting the Half Life game tag be separated from the HLVRAI machinima tag. They did it for Halo & Red v. Blue, so... there’s definitely precedent for booting a machinima fandom out of its parent game tag! (Halo having about a thousand pieces of content versus Red v. Blue’s nearly ten thousand....)  Hopefully they can help separate the media tags in Half Life before it gets to that point!
