Oh my god… so with all the discourse that exploded last night (well, that night for me anyway) about racism, Hudson, and everything else (discourse which I fully did not understand and honestly did not follow at all, which is exactly why Tumblr is the only social media I’m on. guys please keep your discourse contained and let me live peacefully 😭) (also I’m using way too many parentheses already). Anyway. Because of all that, I suddenly started seeing a lot of posts about Hudson’s race, how Rachel Reid writes about Shane’s race, race issues in the NHL, etc. And once again I understood absolutely nothing. I was sooooo far removed from whatever was happening.
The word “race” is just really not used the same way in France (here it’s considered a social construct rather than something biological, and the word itself has a very heavy and negative history, basically using the word “race” casually in French sounds extremely racist). So very naïvely, when I first read those posts, I genuinely thought people were talking about like… a race. As in a car race or something. So none of the posts made any sense to me at all. “Shane’s race”… but… Shane doesn’t race???
Anyway I am clearly confused and my brain was not built for late-night fandom discourse please keep your chaos away from me 😭
