Kaz squints at her. “Are you a student, Inej?” And, oh, no. Her name sounds exactly right in his rock salt rasp. It spells trouble. She shakes it off and tries to focus on answering the question. She supposes that in a different world she could be a student. She would live in a cozy apartment with some other girls, and this would just be a part-time job, so she would have time to attend lectures and write papers and go on dates. But Inej does not live in that world. She lives in this one.
