There are Seasons for specific monster fixations and certain monster-types just feel better at different times of the year.
Observe~
Winter
Winter is a time for ghost stories, especially Christmas time as "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year" told us. Ghosts and ghost-adjacent monster-spirits are so cozy for the winter holidays and so cold and scary when the weather is it's worst. Vampires and werewolves also feel very appropriate for this season too. Weirdly enough, also, maybe because winter is such a "passionate" season, it's a great time for stories of humans being their worst/true crime if you're into that. I don't know why. Maybe it's The Shining's snow scenes getting to me? (tho that one ALSO has ghostsss).
(fav things to watch/read/listen to: Crimson Peak, Beetlejuice, Poltergeist, Phantom of the Opera, Sweeney Todd, The Tiger Lillies, "The Cremation of Sam McGee", Edgar Allan Poe's stuff, Picnic at Hanging Rock, American Murder Song)
Spring
Spring is quite divisive for different people. I like a little escape from the classic spooky-tropes this time of year so I go to mythological monsters and fairytales first. But then Halfaween (Walpurgisnacht/May Day) happens and it's time for WITCHESSSSSSSSSSS and also demons and angels. I don't make the rules. It's magik season, witches!
(fav things to watch/read/listen to: Hadestown, Cryptozoo, Beauty and the Beast, The VVitch, Pan's Labrynth, The Wickerman, Hellraiser, Coraline, The Last Unicorn, The Owl House, Heather Dale, Witches of Eastwick, Wicked)
Summer
SUMMER IS SCI FI SEASON!!!
Specifically alien/robot/kaiju/space travel-based sci-fi. In 'Murica we associate Summer with movie nights and drive ins and days on the beach and camping and carnivals and somehow all sorts of alien-movies are appropriate for these things. It's the season for binging MST3K and tubi like a madman while you clean or have your friends over for drinks. When aliens aren't available, it's also cryptid season (which may or may not include aliens...oh you get it!). Yes, slasher stories can count as 'cryptids' in my book, especially when we're talking people like Jason Vorhees or Leatherface.
(fav things to watch/read/listen to: Jordan Peele EVERYTHING, Circus Contraption, Jack Stauber, Little Shop of Horrors, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Mars Attacks and Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, Jaws, Lilo & Stitch, Sorry to Bother You, The Twilight Zone, Courage the Cowardly Dog)
Autumn
Autumn being THE spooky season means either monster mashes, frankenstein-stories, or zombie-flicks are really appropriate. YES there's a difference between zombies and ghosts, you philistine!
To me, this is the only acceptable time to completely indulge/engage in direct Halloweenisms starting September 1st. If you wear out your specific Halloween-feels out the rest of the year, ALL year, you're gonna get really burnt out and tired of Halloween once it finally arrives, same goes for Day of the Dead. No one wants to have 'Jack Skellington' syndrome and grow weary of the sounds of Halloween-specifc screams.
Remember to keep it fresh. Keep the zombies and monster mashes for this season.
