The SuperFriendz - Karate Man
I’m not sure if that “Halifax Pop” sound ever made its way to the States but I appreciate it a lot more now that I’m older.

Big John Bates at Michael's for the Rockabilly Riot Halifax Pop Explosion edition. Such an awesome awesome awesome show!!! The stand-up bassist was absolutely crazy!! She did a whole bunch of cool tricks with her bass and at the end of their set she hauled her bass across the crowd to the bar and played her bass on top of the bar. Definite highlight of my pop explosion for sure!

Here's another set from probably one of my favorite sets from Halifax pop explosion, Purity Ring! It was the hardest set to photograph because the lighting was so unpredictable. I'm happy I managed to get a few decent photographs.

Here's yet another set from HPX.
This one is of a really great indie alt-rock duo from Oregon called The Helio Sequence. Ever since the lineup for HPX was announced however long ago, I was really excited because I've listened to these guys for a bit and they certainly did not disappoint. For a two piece band, they create A LOT of sound. Some would call it a "Wall of Sound". The words ethereal, dreamy, punchy, catchy, and hooky come to mind when I think of this band. Definitely worth a listen.

Another set from HPX. This is a set from a wonderful singer/songwriter by the name of Jon Samuel. If you're a wintersleep fan, this gentleman may look very familiar to you as he is in the band! I've never listened to his solo stuff until I covered this show and I was very pleasantly surprised at how great this show was. He puts so much thought and feeling into every lyric he sings. And that voice! So smooth. Simply divine. Check him out for sure!

So I had the most amazing opportunity to cover the Halifax Pop Explosion last week for a great music blog called The New Halifax and it was absolutely amazing!! I'm going to start uploading some of my favorite photos that I took throughout the week! I'm starting with some photos I took of Atlas Sound(Bradford Cox of Deerhunter) at St. Matthew's United Church(the best venue of HPX in my opinion)
