I love the twists in each of the companion's characterization. You've got:
Lae'zel, a fighter who acts like a monk
Shadowheart, a cleric who acts like a warlock
Astarion, a rogue who acts like a bard
Wyll, a warlock who acts like a ranger
Karlach a barbarian who acts like a paladin
Minthara, a paladin who acts like a fighter
Jaheira, a druid who acts like a ranger
Minsc, a ranger who acts like a barbarian
And then you have Gale, who just embodies every stereotype a wizard can have.
And Halisin, who is everything you immediately think of when you imagine a druid
