I still think the most devastating enshittification I've ever seen has been picrew. One of the few dress-up game websites left that's not flash-based and it's become DRENCHED in ads. You can't open the home screen without being blasted by at least three or four ads. You can't open two picrews in a row without watching a video ad first. When you have a picrew open the ads cover up the different options and sometimes even stack on each other so you have to hit like 2 or 3 different x buttons to get it to go away, only for more to appear seconds later. meiker.io - A free dress-up/character creator tool/platform filled with a TON of neat little games. There ARE ads on this site unfortunately but imo they aren't overwhelming (and from what I understand them running ads helps keep the site free, so). I've been using this site off and on for years already bc most games are fullbody instead of headshots, which I find more helpful w oc creation, and I can say in my experience it all runs extremely smoothly :) of everything here this site is the most similar to picrew

DollDivine - One of the classic dress-up game websites. Not only is it still up but it is actively being updated with new games, and the owner has been working to try and transfer the old flash games into a program called Ruffle so that they can still be played. Most of the games that I played when I was younger are already back up and working again thanks to this. DollDivine is also the host site for the games featured on Rinmaru Games back in the day so if you were like me and lived and breathed that site for most of your pre-teen years, you will be delighted to know that many of those games were saved here! :D

Azalea's Dolls - Another classic one that is still running and still being added to! If you like Disney/fairytale-esque dress-up games you will love this website, they have some BEAUTIFUL games. They have also been transferring many of their old games into Ruffle, so a good chunk of those will be working again too.

PastelKatto Games - A site owned/managed by one of my personal favourite developers back in the day. While the creator has moved on from publishing their own games they still update the site with other games every so often, and the catalog of games they created over the course of the last decade or so is absolutely worth your time. The range of options they would give to players for characters included a wide range of skin tones, vitiligo, missing limbs + prosthetics, scars/burn marks, and more. Plus their art is also just really, really pretty.

VeggieStudio - If you like anime-esque games then this is the site for you. Their catalog may be quite small, but all the games on this site are beautifully drawn. You may recognize their style if you played any Rinmaru games, as they did the art for a few of those back in the day.

Most of these sites mainly feature games that center around female/feminine characters, but there ARE games where you can make guys/masculine characters as well. But just a heads up in advance. None of them are hardwired for pfp creation either, so if you're looking for that you might not find a lot here. But otherwise, def check these sites out! The flash purge hit dress-up game communities HARD but people have been working to keep things running in some form or another ever since the news dropped. It's been rough, but all has not been lost and a lot of the old games I used to play are now playable again! :D

huge fan of how whenever you try to address that the trend of black characters consistently being seen as less attractive and interesting due to traits that people famously laud white characters over is a systemic occurrence and even if you don't realize this about yourself it's important to recognize the pattern there will always without fail be at least 30 different chucklefucks going "so true i just didn't like him because i like this white character more but you're so right 🥰" it's awesome actually

The Class 1 was issued because of undeclared milk (allergen) and is specific to the chips pictured here sold in March. It’s also specific to a few states. The article lists the states and manufacturing numbers if you need to check.

Just figured those details were critically important. “Class 1” could mean a lot of different things from a total nationwide product recall to a limited pull resultant from an affected production line. If you do not have a milk allergy or do not live in the listed states or did not buy your chips in March, you are fine.

I think a lot of people are forgetting that on tumblr fandom used to be practiced very differently. now everyone fucks off to their discords or tumblr groups to discuss everything with a select few, making tags be nearly only used for posting some finished fanworks or not at all

a decade ago people didn't have tumblr groups. people didn't even have dms. if you wanted to talk to anyone about anything you had to make a post, or send an ask (which more often than not would get published and thereby become a post in the end too)

so next time you think "I have a fandom thought but I have to find a small group of hyperspecifically like-minded people to share it with in private" remember all the freaks you could be missing out on meeting by keeping the tags dead. use tags, make friends. fuck discord.

DRAGON AGE VEILGUARD SPOILERS BELOW

I haven’t seen anyone else talking about it but something just occurred to me.

I wondered why Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain were the only Evanuris to escape the fade. There is a line of dialogue somewhere that explains that the other Evanuris were dead, and they were the final two to survive.

We know that in order to kill the gods, we must first kill their bonded Archdemon to render them mortal.

It only occurred to me on my second playthrough that the reason for the other Evanuris’s deaths is because of the Grey Wardens.

Five blights ended and five archdemons slain, leaving only Razikale and Lusacan alive and waiting. Each one of those previous archdemons was tethered to an elven god, and when they were killed, that rendered the gods mortal.

So what I think happened next was that they either died of old age, loss of power, or they succumbed to the blight that was trapped in the fade prison with them.

One difference between the Lord of the Rings books and the Peter Jackson films that I find really interesting is what the hobbits find when they return to the Shire.

In the books, they return from the War, only to see that the war has not left their home untouched. Not only has it not left their home unscathed, battle and conflict is still actively ravaging the Shire. They return, weary and battle-scarred, to find a home actively wounded and in need of rescue and healing. All four launch themselves into defending their home and rousting those harming it, and eventually succeed. But their idyllic home has been damaged, and even once healed, is never quite again the Shire they set out to save.

In contrast, in the Jackson films, they return to a Shire shockingly untouched by the horrors of war. The hobbits of the Shire talk, in the Green Dragon in Fellowship of the Ring, about not getting involved with issues "beyond our borders," and it seems those issues have not invaded their sanctuary. After having been bowed to by kings, dwarves, elves, and men alike at the coronation in Gondor, their only acknowledgment upon returning home is a skeptical head shake from an older hobbit.

One of the most poignant scenes to me in Return of the King (and there are a considerable amount) is the scene where Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin are sitting in the Green Dragon. The pub patrons bustle around them, talking loudly, clapping excitedly, drinking cheerfully, just as they had in the beginning of the story. But the four hobbits sit silently, watching almost curiously at what was once familiar but is now foreign to them. Their home has not changed. But they have.

Which is the deeper hurt? To come to your home to find it irrevocably changed, despite all you did to keep it untouched and the same? Or to return home but no longer feeling at home, because it is only you that is irrevocably changed?
