They sit for a moment, lost in their thoughts. Could she do it? Gigi’s begging her to just tell her, to tell Nicky everything, but she doesn’t know if she can do that. Not after everything.

They don’t talk for a while. The waitress comes by, they pay, exchange pleasantries with her, but when they’re done neither one of them leave the table.

“I’m scared,” Jaida eventually confesses. It’s barely a whisper, a thought she hadn’t even told herself yet, but it’s true. She doesn’t want to forget her feelings, not when she’d still be by Nicky so often. She doesn’t want to give up what she’d gotten through this stupid fake-dating idea, after everything they’ve done to pretend to be together, and the surgery would take it all away.

“I know. It’s terrifying.” Gigi doesn’t fill her with empty words and meaningless platitudes. She gets it. “But if it’s surgery or die, Nicky would want you to find someone else to love in the future much more than she would want you to be dead.”

Tell me about the witches village!! ❤️

i Love this one so much. it's halldoll, and it's supposed to be a simple fairytale format (which is why I'm struggling, I'm very verbose).

Jaida's sister has a baby, a weak little thing that looks like it won't survive the cold winter night. But up the mountain, there is a secluded village of witches willing to trade magic for human goods. Some people risk the treacherous climb, but very few come back down.

Jaida's sister begs her not to go, as she cannot lose her baby and her sister, but Jaida takes her grandmother's lantern, her father's knife and her sister's blessing, and faces the dark uphill path.

She reaches the village at the break of dawn, and finds a kind healer named Nicky, who's garden seems to sing and move (and listen to their every word). Jaida gets the medicine she needs and goes back down, promising to come back with the payment.

The idea would be to have three instances ofJaida visiting the witch (because of the fairytale rule of three) and have them fall in love (because of course).

Just gonna say it. Halldoll and public transportation.

Jaida remembers being new to New York City. Not fondly, but she remembers it nonetheless. So, when she found out the woman she was renting out her spare room to was fresh off the plane from France, she suspected she’d have to go into full tour guide mode.

They had made it down to the subway station. She couldn’t convince Nicky to hop the turnstile because “these are louboutins, Jaida,” but they got there nonetheless.

“Why is that rat the size of a toddler?” Nicky asked, hiding behind Jaida as she watched the rodent scurry along the tracks.

“‘Cause he’s eating better than we are, quantity wise anyway.” She couldn’t help but shake her head in fond amusement at her roommate’s reaction. “These guys ain’t gonna hurt you. You mind your business and they mind theirs. It’s the ecosystem.”

“I don’t believe you’ve ever taken an earth science course.”

Jaida shrugged. “They don’t teach this in school. Unless you take an urban studies course, I guess,” she told her as they got onto the subway.

There wasn’t a single surface that Nicky felt comfortable touching, so when the train jerked them forward, she held onto Jaida for dear life. It wasn’t until they came to their stop that she realized she latched onto her like a koala. “Don’t say it.”

“I don’t need to,” she chuckled. “Let’s go, but I’m not boutta piggyback you up these stairs.”

4. “And who is that?”

It felt good to finally get out, the warm weather not lasting much longer gave Jaida the perfect excuse to have all her friends over for a night out in her backyard. She sipped from her plastic cup and smiled seeing everyone chatting and laughing together.

Jan was talking with Jackie and Heidi about some production she’s in, Crystal was trying to do a cartwheel in the lawn with Rock cheering her on and Gigi watching for safety reasons since her girlfriend was a hazard. She frowned though, not seeing Nicky anywhere.

She was about to turn to look inside before someone jumped close to her, laughing and holding onto her tight. “Surprise!”

“Jesus!” She shouted, holding onto the blonde carefully, only getting more giggles from the girl.

“I got you.” Nicky said in a singsong voice, giggling and pecking her cheek. “You’re so easy to scare, baby.”

“I was not scared.” Jaida gave her look. “I was… taken by surprise. That’s all.”

“Sureee.” The French woman drawled, a drunken blush on her cheeks and her accent more prominent. Jaida always loved that when they’d go out, it made her so cute. “Good idea for planning this party, baby.”

“Well thank you for helping set it all up, Miss hostess.” She kissed her cheek, smiling and holding onto the shorter woman’s waist. They swayed together there for a few moments of silence, listening to the small breeze blow through the trees and their friends laughing together.

“I have to tell you something.” Nicky giggled, resting her head on Jaidas shoulder. The brunette looked down at her with a small smile. “What baby?”

“I love someone.”

“Oh really? And who is that?”

“You.” She whispered, wrapping her arms around Jaidas neck and connecting their foreheads. “I love you, ma belle.”

She smiled and held her hips, not caring that she heard someone (probably Rock) yell at them to get a room. “I love you too, Frenchie.” She gave her a small kiss, tasting the liquor on her lips and smiling to herself. “Love you so much.”

Nicky giggled again before resting her head on Jaidas shoulder, looking up at her with such adoration that it made Jaidas heart swell.

Who knew you could actually get drunk on love?

"[H]allo," Nicky yawned her greeting, eyes half open as the light from her phone blinded her. The night light barely helped with the stark contrast between the blue of the screen and the darkness of the room. "Do you realise what time it is?"

"Is it a bad time?" Jaida asked.

Ever since Nicky's move back to France, Jaida's calls had grown more frequent. What had once been a rare occurrence became a staple in their routine. Calling for everything big and small, at any hour of the day, and sometimes even multiple times a day.

It made Nicky miss her friend's presence more than ever. Hanging up was never on the table, no matter the time of day or the urgency of the news. Simply hearing Jaida's excited voice made her day better.

"No, no. Not at all. What's up?"

Nicky propped herself against the headboard, sitting upright against the soft pillows. The angry red numbers on her clock read 2:45 am.

"You still live at the address you sent me, right? You're not on a business trip or whatever?"

An odd question at an odd hour.

"I sent you a card. Did you get it? It's from the trip I went on with the others last week to Cancún." Jaida spoke fast, not letting Nicky get a word in. "France still gets mail, right? It should have arrived by now, Jackie said it would. So that's why I'm calling."

"To check if I've gotten your letter?"

"To check if you've gotten my letter," Jaida confirmed. "It's important."

"Yes, I'm still at home. No, I haven't gotten any mail."

Nicky could hear a sigh on the other end of the line. Of relief, maybe?

"Good. Good. Now let me in."

"Uh, what?"

"Surprise, bitch. I'm here. Did you really think I'd miss your birthday?"

“I can’t believe she forgot! You’d think after 6 years of knowing me she’d remember her own girlfriend’s birthday, right?” Jaida said as she squeezed herself into her favorite dress, getting ready for whatever distraction Jan said she was taking her to.

Jan shrugged, “I’m sure she didn’t forget on purpose, Jaida. Besides, you totally have a get-out-of-jail-free card now,”

“Doesn’t make it suck less though,”

As the brunette swiped on the final touch of lip gloss, Jan gave her a comforting hug before guiding them both to her car, giving Jaida full control of the aux – a honor and privilege she doesn’t grant to just anyone. 

When they end up in the driveway of Jan and Jackie’s house, Jaida is confused, but follows her friend anyway when she tells her to. The blonde walks in hurried, stopping at the light switch. Jaida steps in behind, closing the door behind herself when she hears a soft countdown and the lights coming on.

“Surprise!” All her friends said in unison. Jan, Jackie, Heidi, Crystal, Gigi, and most importantly, her girlfriend, Nicky, front and center of them all. “Happy birthday Jaida!”

Jaida’s reaction was priceless, the wide mouth smile she covered for just a moment before she threw her hands to her sides and let out the happiest squeal.

Everyone scurries around the furniture they were hiding behind to swarm the brunette in a group hug, “Y’all! Oh my god, thank you,”

“It was all Nicky’s idea,” Crystal admitted as they began to part away.

“Now let’s get this party started!” Heidi cheered, running to press play on the speaker and letting the music start filling the room. 

As everyone else starts to spread out, either dancing or bringing more food out to the table set up in the back of the room, Nicky walks up to Jaida, pressing a kiss to her cheek and resting her hands on her waist, “Happy birthday, mon amour,”

Looking into Nicky’s loving eyes, the brunette felt a weight lift, “You remembered,” She whispered, her tone relieved.

“Of course I did,” Nicky tucked deep brown locks behind Jaida’s ear, “You didn’t really think I'd forget, did you?”

Jaida's gaze went to the floor as she jutted out her bottom lip into a pout, avoiding answering the question verbally.

"Baby, I wouldn't dare forget my favorite person's special day. I've been planning this for ages because I know how important your birthday is to you,"

The brunette surged forward, her arms around Nicky’s shoulders, "I love you so much,"

"I love you too, cher–"

Poking a manicured nail to the blonde's chest, Jaida cut her off, "But don't you ever pretend to forget again or I will divorce you on the spot," 

"We'd have to married first for that to happen,"

"Don't threaten me with a good time baby,"

"Oh yeah?" Nicky raised an eyebrow with a playful smirk as she pulled Jaida in by her waist for a passionate kiss. 

They get so caught up in having their lips locked that they briefly forget they're out in the open for all their friends to see – until a loud chant bursts their bubble.

"Get a room!"

"Heidi no!" Jackie yanks the karaoke microphone she was using as an amplifier, "Don't give them ideas,"

Jaida let out one of her signature cackles while Nicky just rolled her eyes for having her moment with her girlfriend ruined.

"To be continued, ma cherie" Nicky winked, stealing one last kiss before leading them to the living room to dance with their friends.
