Snippet #6
Based off of @writersagony's prompt #72
Tears and gasps filled the air as blood pooled around Hero. It burned, and hurt, and they wanted it to stop-
They didn't notice the figure stopping by them, leaning down and brushing a finger over their wound, so light it might as well have not been there.
"Oh, my dear Hero... what have they done to you?"
—----------------------------------------------------------
The hero’s eyes widened as they gazed upon the figure.
“M-my Lord-”
“Hush, child. Just tell me what happened.”
The figure was the hero’s guardian, a holy deity who took them under their wing when the hero was abandoned as a child. The deity only lingered in the back of the hero's mind, subtly guiding them through time. The hero could barely fathom that their lord was right in front of them, staring at them with pensive eyes.
“I was…attacked, from behind-” The hero took a sharp inhale as a flash of pain ran through them. “I-I was pushed o-off the roof.”
“What else?” Their lord inquired.
“That was it. I did-didn’t see the attackers.”
The deity looked upward, a slight tilt to their head. The hero followed their gaze, feeling blood trickle down the side of their face as they slowly looked above them and saw the broken slats on the sloped roof. The deity hummed.
“The roof isn’t high enough, you shouldn’t have died.”
The hero whipped their head to the deity. “What do you mean?”
They looked almost disappointed at the hero, like the hero didn’t tell them all that happened. But they told the truth. That was the core principle the deity preached, they wouldn’t dare disrespect their lord.
“You are dead, hero. I am here to take you to the Beyond.”
The hero’s eyes widened. “The Beyond?”
“Yes, hero. It is time to go.” With a wave of their hand, 2 large, cloaked spirits appeared beside the deity, almost blinding the hero as they approached with their golden chains dragging behind them.
The hero’s hands shook. They tried to push themselves up, but a wave of pain crashed through them, forcing them back to the ground. The spirits swiftly came behind them and clasped their hands together, locking them in heavy gilded chains.
“W-why are you sending me to the Beyond? I’ve done everything you’ve asked of me, without complaint. I-I sold my life for-” The doubled over as blood coughed out of their mouth. But this didn’t deter them. “Do I not get to spend the eternal with you?” The hero said quietly.
“No.” The deity said coldly. “This is the end.”
With a woosh, large doors appeared behind the hero, revealing an endless plane of white. The spirits began to drag them back as the hero trashed with what little strength they had. “Wait!” They cried.
The deity bored into them as they were thrown into the Beyond as the gold doors slammed shut and sealed themselves, melting into the ground.
