My Ryders and their Scotts.
Character Development. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧.
I caved and gave ma baby freckles so this is Halley’s final look.
tbh halley's original carreer plan before alec got kicked out of the alliance and she along with him was to work her ass off until she'd hopefully get accepted into the N7 programm like her dad and then once that is done work even harder and become the first human spectre
by the time shepard snatched the latter from her she was only 23 but already dishonorably discharged
also i like to think that halley and brooks actually didn’t have a good sibling relationship when they first came to andromeda, mostly because of their different views of their father (halley admiring their dad, always excusing his absence, and joining the military to make him proud; brooks thinking he was a terrible dad and not wanting to have anything to do with him, especially after their mom died)
brooks only agreed to join the initiative with the rest of his remaining family because despite everything he was afraid of being the only one left behind, and also because the prospect of discovering an entirely new galaxy was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity he just couldn’t pass up
Aesthetic boards for Brooks and Halley, my Ryder twins. 💕
Also like........ speaking of Brooks and Cora becoming parents....... I rlly want Halley and Peebee to have a kid too eventually tbh.........
Not right away, mind you. I feel like the topic of kids is something they never really seriously talked about, and only when Halley’s niece is like five or six and spends a lot of time with her aunts they realize that having a child of their own together is actually something they would both want. So they eventually sit down and talk about it, and after thinking it over long and hard they decide that yes, they wanna be moms as well.
- Unlike Brooks, Halley was a real daddy’s girl, and her relationship with Alec had always been a lot better than her brother’s. She admired and idolized him from a young age on, always excused his absence in their lives when someone (especially Brooks) brought it up, and just generally aspired to make him proud. That, along with the fact that she developed biotic abilities early on, were the two main reasons why she joined the Alliance as soon as she turned 18, while her brother decided to distance himself from their father to pursue a degree in botany.
- Once Halley wakes up and finds out her brother is the new Pathfinder being stuck in the cryo bay under Harry’s watchful eyes becomes hard for her. As soon as she is recovered enough to walk she insists she’s fine and argues that she should be out there supporting her brother, seeing as she is the one who actually had a successful military carreer back in the Milky Way, unlike her scientist brother. As much as he sympathises Harry is having none of it though, so no matter how much she complains Halley has to stay behind on the Hyperion.
- After a certain point Harry at least let’s her leave the the cryo bay a couple of hours a day to roam around the Nexus, in hopes it eases Halley’s restlessness a little and provides a distraction to her. She’s only set loose, however, when Harry is 100% positive the Tempest isn’t docked because both of them know Halley would sneak away and onto the ship as soon as the chance presents itself, that’s why she’s always back in the cryo bay whenever Brooks visits her.
- Halley mostly spends her free time hanging around the operation deck in hopes of picking up news about her brother and his crew. She eventually gets acquainted with Kesh and Kaetus, who recognise her as the other Ryder at some point, and while she gets along with them well she tries to avoid Addison and Tann, who don’t seem to be all that interested in her anyway.
- She also becomes good friends with Sid, who approached her after hearing her talk to Kaetus and figuring out she had to be the Pathfinder’s sister, and they bond quickly over the fact that their siblings are out there in space while they are both stuck on the Nexus.
- Dealing with the sudden loss of their father while she was stuck in a coma is hard for her, and one of the reasons why she's really grateful Harry is letting her out of the med bay at least so she can distract herself from her thoughts. Although she doesn’t want to admit it to herself part of her blames her brother for Alec’s death, and part of her blames herself for not being there, since she convinced herself that she might have been able to do something - anything - to save him.
