Middle School Monday: Ham Helsing Vol. 1: Vampire Hunter by Rich Moyer
Ham Helsing is a pig who comes from a long line of adventurers. Unfortunately, many of his ancestors were so adventurous and took so many risks that they didn’t live very long. But Ham is determined to be different. He doesn’t want to be reckless. He doesn’t want to live a dangerous lifestyle. He’d rather paint or write poetry instead. But after his brother Chad dies, Ham must reluctantly take his first dangerous assignment: to hunt a vampire.
This graphic novel has a serious premise, but readers will quickly see that its dark exterior is wrapped around a hilarious center. This book is filled with visual humor, madcap comedy, and surprisingly cute adventures.
Give this book to older kids and younger teens who are looking for a graphic novel that will make them think and also make them laugh.
When a book cover is SO ADORABLE that it jumps to the top of your TBR list!

Here is a preview of the titles on the July/August 2021 Kids’ Indie Next List flier, arriving at stores in the upcoming Kids’ Box mailing.
Find my recommendation for this thrilling, clever, and utterly hilarious graphic novel about a literary-inspired vampire hunting pig in the American Bookseller Association’s July & August Kids issue of Indie Next.
