Hamasho (浜笑) at Desa Sri Hartamas
Last Friday we decided to wait out the after office hour traffic jam by having our dinner at Hamasho. Having been recommended this Japanese restaurant by 2 Japanese friends previously, we were very excited.
The moment we walked into the restaurant, we couldn’t help but feel that we walked through a door that transported us to Japan.
Feeling famished, we ordered barbecued Hokkaido scallop, barbecued shiitake mushrooms from Kyoto, clam soup, pari pari cabbage (raw cabbage with dip), grilled Saba fish, buttered potatoes & mentaiko onigiri.
The every dish tasted fresh and well seasoned. The scallop was big. The shiitake mushrooms were juicy. The clam soup had a sweet taste with huge juicy clams. We thought the potatoes tasted like the ones we had in Sapporo. The only thing that we felt wasn’t up to our standard was the grilled Saba fish (probably won’t be ordering that again).
Whilst I was still contemplating on whether to order dessert, we noticed a couple who just walked in. It so happened that a friend of ours had decided to eat at the same restaurant that day. So we shifted to their table and I ordered my dessert to share. Grilled sweet potatoes topped with homemade soybean (kinako) ice cream.
All in all, It was a very satisfying meal. Although the portions were rather large, we somehow managed to finish everything but the cabbage.
Summary: A tad pricey but worth the quality. I always hate paying exhorbitant prices for bad food. However, we will definitely come back when we have our Japan withdrawal syndrome.
