OVERRATED AND UNDERATED CHARACTERS OF HAMILTON (and the normally rated) + a tedtalk about who is the true antagonist of hamilton.
DISCLAMER /! this is my opinion, I respect your, and don't want to force you into my own thoughts. I enjoy every single character of hamilton except Eacker and mother fucking mister Reynold.

the "historically" overrated
AKA those who, historically are far more than great but got a aspect of their portrayal who get fans WAY TO MUCH INVESTED FOR WHAT THE CHARACTERS IN THE PLAY ARE REALLY

Overrated by need to protect this absolute angel that we all love (no irony, she is truly a lovable character), weakened by poor writing
Please do not hate me, but I thinks the character was poorly written, reduced almost to only Hamilton's wife, a women of the house with no political impact. she deserves love, for shure *insert sunglasses here* but we have to admit that she got a lot of attention for someone who (unhappily) don't get a lot of impact on ham's political story.(when alive. WHEN ALIVE. ( the poor girl only have one bit of a song to show the impact she had outside of her own family... )) Historicaly accurate Eliza will NEVER be overrated, but a poorly written female character wrote by a man will be, unfortunately. Why giving her so less importance lin ????
But on the other hand, her writing on being Hamilton's wife is splendid, you get the Helpless/burn arc so freaking badly good. And as Phillip's mom too. but she is a cinnamon roll, an angel who deserves nothing but the best, and a courageous woman.
4/10 on overrating, because lin get Hamilton's wife , and Phillip's mother right, and one of the Schuyler's sister not that bad, but he messed up the Woman of her time and circle of power so freaking baaaaad

Overrated by love for the poorly given crumbs of queer representation of the gay tm, weakened by cuts on the records and because of the POORLY CRUMBS OF GAY. like if gay gives us gay but if no gay, no queerbaiting
Like... I simply don't get it. like poor dude interlude don't even get to be in the final record ?? Really, the emotional tension between ham and laffy, ham and Angelica, are by far (both platonically and non platonically) more hurting. Like, as a ham's friend, laffy taffy is equal to him in importance to me. But historically accurate Laurence like awww awww babyyyy. LMM admitted himself that Laurens' gayness as portrayed in the play was a (I quote) "treat". NO. THANKS. OUT.
9/10 on overrating. Because we Stand against blatant queerbating. and I really don't get it.

Overrated for the funsies, weakened because he is not really a great antagonist.
He is put on the place as the big antagonist of part 1, but let me get it straight. in part one, and in the whole show in general, the true antagonist to Hamilton's life and ambition is HAMILTON HIMSELF. What put hamilton in all sort of difficult positions is himself. The Reynolds paper ? himself, by 1. refusing to take a break, fucking Maria, agreeing on reynold's blackmail, and writing the Reynolds paper. when Washington send him home during the war ? himself, by participating in a duel Washington forbade. Phillip death ? HIMSELF. (by giving his son pistols and his blessing like wtf). HIS OWN DEATH ? HIMSELF. So, it's difficult to see the king as a threat, doubled by his comical aspect. plus, in the record, we don't see the consequences of the war because we don't hear Laurence's interlude.
Added to that that the war is almost a side quest. Hamilton's final endgame and goal is to leave behind him a legacy, not to stay alive or to gain independence for his country. He want that too, but the main goal here is to build a legacy, and the war is a way to build it. it does NOT stop hamilton to get his goal, it help him. So, the man behind the war cannot be seen as an antagonist, since he was not directly stopping ham to reach his only true goal : legacy.
So, difficult to appreciate him as an antagonist. as a character, he is very funny, I give you that, but given his songs look very alike from one to another, the only thing who make him a REALLY memorable antagonist is Johnathan groof's protay of him. And that only make the king deserve a lot of the fan work and appreciation of him.
UNDERRATED.

Underrated because of poor writing and his sister, should be more appreciated because of good writing (yes, both), and amazing character.
can I scream my hate of seeing such a brilliant character, which was literally introduced as BRILLIANT, described by LMM as ham's soulmate, ready to sacrifice everything she want and desire for her sister well being and for her family name, such a tragic character who get maybe the most tragic song of the whole show, SO FORGOTTEN BY THE FANS ??? LIKE WHAT.
blatant 10/10 on underrated. Never seen a character this much cool, tragic, witted, clever, and sad af getting this much lack of appreciation from the fan.

theses characters have different reasons to be underrated, but got appreciation anyways.

Underrated bcz I don't found enough stuff around his political influence and his philosophy in the play (which is very interesting) and should be more appreciated because of that.
too much frequently reduced at the sons of liberty's father. NO PLEASE.
5/10 on underrating, because you only get one side of himself interesting fans and it's either being shipped with the king or being mr call me son one more time

underrated because reduced to Jefferson's partner, and should be more looked into the man of law and ham's first political adversary.
Like, in the play, the dude was clearly the one being the first having beef against our good old ham, he wrote the federalist papers, the bill of rights, and all of that while having debilitating illness.
and the said illness is always used to mock him but BELIEVE ME, IT'S NOT FUNNY TO BE ILL AND STILL HAVE THE COURAGE TO STAND. and stand with such efficiency!
7/10 on underrating. No, he is not only mr cough cough and Jeff's gay. He is a valuable and wise politician !

Our poor laffy is not THAT much underrated, but I will always stand by the fact that he was very much put in laurens' shadow (for nuts actually like ??? DUDE CONVICED WASH TO CALL ALEX BACK TO WAR, AND HAS BEEN BETRAYED BY HAM AFTERWARD.)
And he is frequently seen as a funny dude but like. HEROS OF THE TWO WORLDS
So, 2/10 in underrating because yeah as Hamilton's friend he don't get enough appreciation from the fandom.
