Happy (theoretical) 265th birthday to our dear Eliza Hamilton.
She was born August 9th, 1757, and was buried at Trinity Church Cemetery along with her late older sister and husband, after outliving both of them. Throughout her life, she accomplished so many things that were not brought to light as they should have been.
-She, along with two women, founded the Orphan Asylum Society, which was New York City’s first private orphanage, just two years after Alexander Hamilton’s death
-She bore EIGHT fucking children.
-She helped her husband write speeches (including Washington’s farewell address).
She was overall a beautiful soul, inside and out. Even after her husband was killed, she stopped wasting time on tears and continued to live for 50 more years, something that was practically unheard of in her time. Finally, at the ripe old age of 97, on November 9th, 1854- three months after her recent birthday.
She was a powerful and strong woman. Notably, the most recognized accomplishment of hers was telling her husband’s story, as no one else knew him as well as she did.
She was brave, interviewed every single fucking soldier who fought by his side, loved Angelica- her sister and her best friend- until she breathed her last breath.
When her time was up, she had done more than enough. She passed on and joined her husband and sister in Trinity Church, along with the rest of her family in heaven.
She was so busy telling Alexander’s story that she forgot to tell her own-
But here the world is telling it and ensuring her legacy lives on forever.
Raise a glass to Elizabeth (Eliza) Hamilton (née Schuyler).
You will be remembered.
