Summary: Makoto had to laugh, an Adept and Infiltrator left to try and survive without any cover fire? Well, he might as well start imaging his mother’s face when she was told he was dead now.
Notes: Part of a Personal 30 Day AU Challenge: Day 1 - Sci-fi
Makoto had known that this mission was going to go to hell as soon as he’d heard there would be four humans trying to take down a base full of Batarians. It didn’t help that the two you’d expect to be up close and personal (a Soldier and Vanguard) were goddamned idiots who didn’t know what they were doing.
The only one who had half a brain besides him was the Infiltrator, and there only so much he could do when his Tactical Coat was fried. No, without that Tatsuya was kind of useless on the battlefield.
Said uselessness only got worse when the Vanguard finally succumbed to their wounds and fell dead in front of Makoto.
Makoto had to laugh, an Adept and Infiltrator left to try and survive without any cover fire? Well, he might as well start imaging his mother’s face when she was told he was dead now. The pain, the tears… It made him almost wish his fate wasn’t sealed with that death.
“Why the long face, huh?” He looked over at Tatsuya, who’d decided to take cover behind a flipped table near Makoto. “You think we’re going to die.”
“Well, I can’t see us making it out of this alive, if that’s what you mean!” Makoto called back, trying to ignore the hail of bullets coming down on their hiding place. “Only so much you can do with that rifle of yours!”
“But we have those fancy biotics, too!” Tatsuya grinned at him, as if an idea had struck him.
Makoto frowned. “Oh yeah?”
“Say, can you make one of those singularities?” Tatsuya looked at him carefully, studying him. It was making Makoto feel weird, as if he was a test subject or something.
“I can, what’s it to you?”
“Catch some of those Batarians in one for me, would you?”
Makoto then realized exactly what his plan was. Have Makoto catch them in a singularity so he could shoot them all down with no retaliation from the affected group. That was Makoto’s favorite kind of plan.
“Well, I guess--” He turned and threw a singularity at a group of about five mercenaries, “I could do that.”
Tatsuya smiled at him before swiftly peeking out from cover and shooting a bullet into each of the five heads. How he did that when the singularity was pulling them all around, Makoto didn’t know. He had to say he liked it, though.
Tatsuya ducked right back down when another hail of bullets started towards them. “Dammit...looks like there’s still quite a few issues…”
“Then let’s just keep doing this, hm?”
Tatsuya nodded and Makoto through another singularity and Tatsuya shot the bastards in their heads. Rinse and repeat a few times and… There! The Batarians were dead and somehow the mission didn’t end in death.
Makoto was about to sign in relief, when Tatsuya jumped at him with a laugh. “We did it! We made it through!”
“Hey now!” Makoto frowned when Tatsuya pulled him into a hug. “No need for that! You seemed sure we would live!”
Tatsuya shook his head and smiled. “I was just keeping up a poker face! I didn’t want you giving up and getting us killed for sure!”
“So...you did it in a ploy to try and survive?”
“Well...I guess you can say that!”
“You asshole…!”
Tatsuya laughed and pat Makoto’s head. “No need for such strong language!”
Makoto frowned as Tatsuya called up their superiors to give a progress report. He had to say, he respected someone who could lie like that. Maybe it was a good thing Tatsuya had survived then, he needed to work on his lying to a liar skills anyway.
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Tatsuya was a Let’s Player, one who didn’t have much interest in channels outside his sphere of things... So, why was he sitting on his computer at three in the morning, watching some “Do it Yourself” tutorials and vlogs from some random channel.
6 w MidoAka, 15 w HanaHimu, and/or 18 w our new crack ship ;3;
All three of them tho, I’m doing all three of them!
MidoAka + 6. Things you said under the stars and in the grass.
”The stars are beautiful tonight.” Seijuurou smiled softly as he stared up at the night sky. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many at the same time...”
Shintarou chuckled a little bit and glanced around the area around them. “You spend too much time inside, Seijuurou.” So in other words, he should take his boyfriend camping more often.
“I don’t really have time to get outside at night.” Seijuurou sighed and cuddled up closer to the taller boy. “But... this is really nice. Thank you for taking me out for the weekend.”
Shintarou shook his head and kissed Seijuurou’s temple. “It’s my pleasure. Besides... I have something else I’d like to ask you tonight.”
“Oh?” Seijuurou turned his head from the stars to look Shintarou in the eye. “What is it?”
Shintarou pulled out a small black box out of his jeans and slowly flipped the lid open. “Will you marry me?”
HanaHimu + 15. Things you said with too many miles between us.
”I miss you.” Makoto sighed as he flopped onto his bed in his hotel room. “Why couldn’t you have come with me?”
“I have classes this week.” Tatsuya sighed equally as deeply. “I wish I could’ve gone with you, Makoto. I miss you too.”
Makoto groaned and rolled over on the bed. “You should’ve ditched and came with me anyway. It’s boring here without you.”
“I’m not ditching my classes to go to Hawaii with you, Makoto.” Tatsuya rolled his eyes. “I have to pass my classes so I can graduate, you know this.”
“Yeah, I know.” Makoto groaned again. “Well, I’m ready to come home, then. I want to see you.”
Tatsuya smiled. “I want to see you too, Makoto.” He yawned a little bit and looked at the clock. “Do you want a goodnight kiss?”
“Yeah, I do.”
Does This Ship Have a Name + 18. Things you said when you were scared.
Akutagawa had seen many people at their most terrified. It kind of came with the whole being in the Mafia thing. He had just never seen someone so terrified while he... was literally just sitting there.
“Is something wrong?” He asked, trying to keep his voice low so as not to terrify the shaking writer worse.
“E-Everything’s fine...!” Poe smiled nervously, then continued looking over Akutagawa’s shoulder at whatever it was he had been looking at before. “D-Don’t worry about it!”
The black haired man frowned. “Is there something on my face?” Was he making a scary face?
“N-No, you’re fine...” Poe bowed his head a little bit. “Just ignore me...”
“Okay...?” Akutagawa would definitely have to ask about it later.
“Petting cats?” Makoto asked incredulously and stared at his boyfriend. “You want to go to the animal shelter just to... pet cats.” Tatsuya gave him a nod, and he rolled his eyes.
“You’re allergic! No way am I taking you to the shelter to go pet animals that make your face puff up like a red marshmallow.”
Tatsuya frowned and crossed his arms, a small pout beginning to form on his face. “Come on, Makoto, please? I took an Allegra this morning for my allergies!”
“No, Tatsuya! I don’t want to risk your throat closing from being around all those furballs.” Makoto shook his head adamantly. “If we’re going to the shelter for anything, we’ll have to go to look at the dogs.”
“Yeah, but the dogs are noisy. And they don’t let you sit in the room and pet them.” Tatsuya retorted. “Plus, they’re too slobbery, and I spent a good half an hour fixing my eyeliner this morning.”
Makoto rolled his eyes so hard he swore he could see his brain. “You and your eyeliner. It’s waterproof, isn’t it? You’ll be fine.”
“I won’t go unless you take me to see the cats, Makoto.” Tatsuya insisted, ignoring the question about his eyeliner. (Which, by the way, was waterproof.) “If you’re not going to take me, I’ll go ask Atsushi.”
Makoto groaned inwardly and lolled his head to the side in thought. If I take him to see the cats, he could have an allergic reaction and need to go to the hospital, but I’m pretty sure he’ll stop talking to me if I don’t...
“Fine,” he sighed, “we can go see the cats. But only for an hour.”
Tatsuya’s entire face lit up and he tackled his boyfriend into a bone-crushing hug. “Thank you, Makoto! Let’s go!”
Makoto had the feeling he might regret his decision later that day, but Tatsuya was happy; that’s all that mattered.
