Grouchy is being forced into a conspiracy in this au, trying to obtain something from The Mirror of Erised—something he doesn't yet know how he'll get it from. He plans to use his newly acquired knowledge to cast spells on the mirror, but encounters an uninvited guard; Vanity is utterly captivated by the mirror

However, Vanity didn’t mind others sharing the mirror with him. Thus, the basement briefly became a shared space for the two smurfs: Grouchy studied the mirror with notes he had just taken from the library, while Vanity simply sat there gazing at himself

They would chat idly or simply exist in a comfortable silence, never mentioning that they were also quietly observing each other

Vanity found Grouchy mysterious, while Grouchy somewhat enjoyed the feeling of having companionship without needing to speak. And deep down, they both thought the other was quite good-looking (ah well
