there’s loads of things that come to mind, mainly just my friends deciding to stay my friends, but one memory does come up from back in high school… I was the volleyball team manager and it was senior night (i was a senior, 4th year managing) and i was up on the balcony ready to film and take stats and they were doing their whole schpeal on the leaving senior players, giving them flowers, the whole thing. i had only ever seen it done for players, so i didn’t think they’d mention me, but then the coach started saying, “and of course, there’s one senior who has always hidden backstage, but basically ran the show!” and started talking about all the things i did in the past four years, while the entire team ran up the stairs to give me a big bouquet and give a group hug.

i hadn’t expected them to mention me, nor give me flowers, nor even do all the things they did that night, cause i had thought i was just a glorified helper, that i would never be one of them because i couldn’t play, couldn’t join the huddle, and never be out on the court again.

but what they did was really sweet and when basketball season came around, the same thing happened, only this time i actually got to go through the tunnel they do at the beginning of games. it was so sweet and i will NEVER forget those memories…

i cried at both games. it was the first time i had cried in public
