I remember when you would reach out to me daily.
A ten word story
I know my mind constantly wanders, like a sparrow on an especially breezy day. I know I baffle you frequently, you wonder what goes on in that craziness that's called my head. I don't really know how to admit that I'm always wishing I could take off and fly to some unnamed beach. I don't know how to when my whole life I've been so used to being an empty house with walls that if you asked them, could tell you stories of a monster who reigned over my family's heads for as long as I can remember. Maybe it's selfish, maybe I'm lazy, but all I want is to be a kid again, to start over and forget all my worries, as if childhood and innocence had never been tainted. It is selfish, But honestly, I'm tired of being selfless. I just want quiet. I want to be a kite in the wind, just wandering aimlessly, adding a little more color to the endless blue in my own little world. 12/04/2016
It's the little things in life that get me by. I appreciate the time it took for all the hairs on my dog's ears to grow, to form just the right amount of fluffiness that could comfort me just by watching them twitch when he hears a far off sound. I am thankful for the patience it takes for you to grind the beans for her coffee every morning while she packs both your lunches. I picture the two of you together like this and feel happy knowing you chose someone as perfect for you as you are for her. I adore sunlight in every form. Whether that's in the sky smiling down at us all, peeking at me around branches of trees long grown and flowering before I was ever born, or beaming through sheer white curtains swaying in soft breezes that kiss my napping June on the windowsill. I enjoy the peace I find on the couch screaming at the tv screen with my sisters playing the boss of Shovel Knight at 1 in the morning or silently watching the same tv shows we have watched over and over in our childhoods and never getting tired of it. Whatever we do together I feel safe. We can be whoever we want to be here. I smile at the moments when, as I write this, a small cat's paw reaches up from my lap tentatively and slaps my pencil causing me to scribble. (At least I thought to use a pencil instead of a pen). And still, out of all these little things that calm my fluttery mind, I thank the stars for these fuzzy little ears of his. I'll pet his head while he looks up at me, panting lovingly, and I know. Everything is going to be fine.
“Write something about my dog’s fuzzy ears, or something like that I don’t know.”
“My Name” -H.F. (12/2015)
You were the land and I was the sea
washing over you again and again
Hopefully, tentatively
You were my world
but your dirt and terrain
were too thick past the shore
I couldn’t reach
I couldn’t get through to your core
