can’t buy me love + Amor Vincit Omnia

The first things that truly grasped me while reading this author’s works were the complete understanding of every character’s personality, and their dialogue. They exhibit each character in a unique style, highlighting their traits perfectly, especially through the lively dialogue that they use! Their writing style itself has a wonderful feel to it too, sprinkled with bits of humor here and there for a light read.

just a touch + say you’ll remember

I have to be honest, canon-based fics aren’t usually my cup of tea, but writer anyadisee has such a gorgeous way with words that I couldn’t help but be completely enthralled with their canon-divergent AU “say you’ll remember”. They have a wonderful grasp of dynamics and the world that surrounds their characters, able to express their feelings easily through movement and actions. There’s really not much room for complaint here; I heavily recommend their work!

Bright Star; + Pushing Daisies

There are simply no words to use when describing this author’s work ‘Bright Star’; it is, in my opinion, the epitome of a beautiful combination between writing and poetry. The author seamlessly blends together flowing, poetic descriptions into their prose to describe the work’s events in an absolutely gorgeous manner. ‘Pushing Daises’ is more action-based, and doesn’t fail to capture your attention with its intriguing premise. Despite being a slightly hard read due to these heavy descriptions, no one can deny the hard work that clearly went into making these works.

7 A.M. Coffee Boys + Stammi Vicino Patissier

This author’s work is simply some of the best and most interesting fluff AUs I’ve seen! Their work has a certain atmosphere about it; a wonderfully cheery and delightful atmosphere and I couldn’t help but fall in love with their content. However, their writing still feels like it’s held back, and lacks certain aspects in its development. Armed with the prettiest prose, and the most wonderful words, I’m sure daysinrussianvictuuri will be going places with their writing!

Le gibet + Ondine

This author’s work, especially Le Gibet, left me in complete awe. Their writing has an impeccably smooth flow, perfectly chosen words forming perfectly phrased sentences, forming perfectly constructed stories. Not only that, but by delving into their other content, I was able to tell that their writing style is easily flexible and malleable, as they produce hilariously fluffy and comic writing alongside deliciously heart-wrenching horror. While their lighter content still seems slightly forced, their work is unlike anything I’ve encountered for a while and I would most definitely recommend them, but not to the faint of heart!

Before It Burns Me Numb

Ilarual’s work has a certain atmosphere to it, various aspects and details from their wonderful work mixing together to create a gorgeous immersion into their canon-based AU, ‘Before It Burns Me Numb’. It’s a continuation of the infamous episode 10 scene – with a twist. I won’t be giving away spoilers of any kind, but their world building is amazing to see, everything in the work seemed brought to life in a way I haven’t seen in a while. Not only that, but their dialogue is light and wonderful to read; their fic is a beautiful blend of fluff and intriguing plot.

My Baby Blue + The Family We Choose 

This author’s works give off a happy-go-lucky, doubtlessly cheerful vibe, as well as a slightly darker one. Their content never fails to portray homophobia in one way or another, waking up the reader to the real reality our world is facing, yet despite this I was still moved by how simply lighthearted and merry they envisioned viktuuri’s relationship. Their style, however, could still use some development, so as it to make it completely ‘their own’ but all in all, they were good reads!

That snippet about Shisui/Kurama is definitely an example of being scaroused. Shisui doesn't know whether to be terrified or attracted to this red-haired stranger that just murdered several shinobi with his claws.

The mysterious person could sense warmth and had spiky hair and pale skin, which would imply Sasuke...but you said it wasn't him!! Is it Shin, Sai's brother figure? A Hyuuga? (But they don't have spiky hair!) When you mentioned warmth I thought of Karin cuz sensor types but she isn't in Konoha. UGH.

I see you've been posting a lot of Avengers, so I have a rec: any of ficlicious's works, nearly all Tony centric with a healthy dose of IronHawk pairings and a good deal of Steve kicking after that Civil War movie. Ficlicious can also be found at allthemarvelousrage.

Hi! Sorry if this is a repeat ask but, as someone well-versed in xianxia media, do you have any recommendations for novels/shows/movies? I know about mo xiang tong xiu and have watched nirvana in fire...got any more recs?

but seriously, it’s more like... unconscious absorption throughout childhood, old vhs’s lost to time. i’ve watched so much via the chinese cable tv channel that i don’t even know their names anymore. and times have really changed.

mxtx novels are either subversions and/or satire, thus aren’t a good indication you might like other xianxia/wuxia stuff. older stuff is definitely more cheesy, less complicated.

still, try Handsome Siblings on Netflix (i still need to find a decent translation, but the last time i searched was... 2012) bc it’s based of an og wuxia novel, but being netflix it is palatable to a new audience (i grew up on the old version w tvb  stars (hk actors), which is full of that chinese-production-ham that i dearly love).

ashes of love is highly rec’ed by a lot of people (i still need to make time to watch it)

hero (2002) is a good wuxia movie

(also: kungfu hustle isn’t a wuxia movie, but it still showcases a lot of the old tropes as part of the comedy (weaponized zithers, fancy manual, special techniques))

if you like gu zhuang pian (chinese period-style films) as indicated by nirvana in fire, and you don’t mind harem bullshit, empress of china is a good time (esp for the visual eyecandy). uhhh curse of the golden flower was also full of drama and pretty to look at. the advisors alliance i’ve also heard good things about (and is on my ‘to watch’ list)
