EP 01 VS EP 12: Run Yuuri Run!
Authors mod Andi has checked out this week!
Here we go with this week’s works~
maygunbun – @maygunbun
Wings + Till All Is Grey
Maygunbun clearly proves that a fanfic doesn’t need to be extremely long or over-complicated to leave an impression – their work ‘Wings’ concisely describes a beautiful alternate universe where both Yuuri and Viktor are painters. In my opinion, their words speak clearly to the reader, who is presented with a witty and interesting new concept. A great fanfiction experience, especially for any new fans!
missmichellebelle – @missmichellebelle
…and All the Little Moments + and that’s what you missed on-
Their writing style was intriguing from the start, filled with flowing descriptive paragraphs that showed off their talent in writing descriptive prose without weighting down the reading experience. The Glee AU was especially lovely to read, characterizing Victor and Yuuri just right and with that extra edge of a comic situation without going into their stereotypically placed personas. Well done!
myoue – @cofferi
27 Overexposures + The nostalgic feeling of the familiar
There is no doubt that myoue’s writing is definitely noteworthy, as they tell truly wonderful and delicately woven tales. The writer tends to delve deeply into the characters thoughts and emotions; a bold move that leaves little room for any mischaracterizations, however they handle it with grace. I admit that the story seems to progress at a slow rate and sometimes quite randomly too, due to this very aspect of their style, yet they tie everything in their plot together amazingly!
That's true!! I have some amazing friends who are artists as well and I legit am just so in awe all the time since you guys are so committed!!! Also when I see you guys sell prints or offer commissions I'm like god damn THATS SO COOL. You're self sufficient already and I'm like legit amazed (esp in a country where most people don't value the arts tbh)!!! It IS my bday actually!! I'm Super excited and dude I just saw your promo and IM BRINGING MY ENTIRE BANK ACC THERE TO RAID THE PLACE.
Hi again @maygunbun !! ^^ UWAA ‘self-sufficient’…i-i really liked that word you used ;w; it makes me feel like an adult AHAHA x’D yea ikr, i think people here view art in a different mindset, but it’s definitely changing! I have a glimmer of hope for the future, lol!
AWW DANG IM SO FLATTERED BUT pls leave some money for your food and drink ok! HAHAHA! see you at doujima~!! 8DD
I wanted to do some montage amv sorta thing but god... i need to find the time to finish this...
Finally, he drew the wings. Great, large, magnificent wings. The feathers shone in different shades of purple and red. They were so large they could’ve reached one end of the wall to the other if they were spread, but Yuuri didn’t want that. Once again, the colours surrounded the figure. But this time, it wasn’t suffocating him. The wings wrapped gently around him, pulling the figure into its embrace.
I’M HERE, AND I’LL NEVER LEAVE.
I commissioned a piece for my artist AU one shot, Wings! Thank you to the talented @talismanic-art for the amazing work and for being a really sweet individual!!! Do check both her and the fic out :))
ok headcanon in the canon universe except yuuri isn’t a figure skater but...
an artist who (like in canon) is viktor’s biggest fan. He runs a successful fan account and creates banners and artwork of Viktor and his programmes, and it gets the attention of viktor’s publicity guy and he’s like hey good publicity! viktor come meet this fan and stuff and take some pictures, and viktor is all for it because he’s used to doing stuff like that.
DON’T GET HIM WRONG
he loves his fans but he’s just so tired after being in the industry for like 203820493 years. some ppl make use of him and some ppl aren’t sincere, and so many people say they love him and seem to worship the ground he walks on but he’s still left feeling alone after it all and he’s so sick and tired of it but he tries his best to treat all his fans nicely partially because he's nice and partially because management tells him to (i mean when you’re as huge as viktor you’re practically a BRAND)
and so he goes to meet yuuri and he’s already put on his sweet polite facade and got the whole “thank you so much for being my fan!” line ready and he never actually LOOKED at the art yuuri drew for him until he met him when yuuri brought this giant ass oil painting to gift viktor because he’s such a fan and viktor sees it and...
it’s like yuuri sees right through him. in his art he doesn’t draw viktor all magnificent but instead, almost... sad? it’s a piece based on one of his programme, and this programme was something viktor poured his sorrow and his frustrations into and yet everyone called it BEAUTIFUL and a DISPLAY OF HIS LOVE and viktor finds himself so so so UN-understood. So when he sees yuuri’s piece, he finds that it hits so close to home and he can’t handle it and he’s intrigued.
like WHAT DOES HE KNOW ABOUT ME?????
and so he warms up to yuuri immediately, and they chat and yuuri mentions casually that he’s trying to build up his portfolio but y’know he’s still looking for the perfect subject. he wants to try live painting but no one really caught his eye yet and viktor is like HEY DAWG WHAT ABOUT ME?
and yuuri is like sh00k and of course he says yes, and viktor’s pubs team thinks that it’s an amazing PR stunt by viktor, but viktor just wants to get to know the one person who seems to understand him, who seems to see through all the glitz and the glamour,
and yuuri just wants to get to know viktor. not Viktor Nikiforov, not The Living Legend, but viktor, the one that inspires him to paint.

yo soooo i wrote it.
Viktor is really ugly.
Remember to smile. Remember to thank them for their support. Remember, remember, remember.
Shut up, is what Viktor wants to say, but he knows better than to do that. Viktor Nikiforov is always polite, always welcoming, and he would certainly never say anything rude. Especially not in front of management. He’d have to sit through a lot of nagging otherwise, and Viktor hates nagging.
And so he smiles.
He pulls the corners of his lips upwards, into a dazzling cover-worthy grin, and wills the happiness to show on his face. His eyes crinkled at the sides, and his brows lift up ever so slightly. Viktor is great at many things, and acting appears to be one of them.
His publicity manager scurries beside him, hurriedly telling him what he needs to do.
Take pictures, shake hands, a few hugs here and there, done. The same as always. Though this time, it is just one fan, instead of a whole bunch of them at once.
He’ll be bringing you a gift. Make sure to pose for a picture when he passes it to you. It’s special.
Special? Viktor asks, finally paying some attention to the words around him. He’s never had to take a picture with a fan’s gift before.
He’s an artist. He has quite a big following online. He’s going to gift you with a painting of you, he’s your biggest fan.
Oh.
A biggest fan. He has a lot of those. And though Viktor is thankful for their support (truly thankful, he thinks; not just because his management tells him to be, but because he should be), it feels like everyone isn’t really looking at him. They want Viktor Nikiforov, they’re his fans, and Viktor is tired of pretending to be him for over half his life. He’s thankful, but thankful in the same way he is when the official congratulates him for winning a gold medal. A ‘thank you’ kind of thankful.
-
What’s that? Viktor asks. His eyes are pointed towards a flimsy piece of paper that fell out of a well-used leather sketchbook, and not the painting on the 36 by 48 canvas. That painting, well, it’s pretty. But it’s a pretty painting of Viktor’s Stammi Vicino, and Viktor doesn’t like to think about that programme.
It’s a programme for the fans, his manager had said. It’s his way of asking them to stay by his side, to support him forever.
Shut up, was what Viktor had wanted to say. It’s a programme for me. It’s my programme.
But Viktor had known better than to say that, and so, he smiled.
This, Viktor clarifies, reaching forward to snatch the paper from the black-haired boy. As he does so, he can almost feel his manager’s sharp gaze on him, reminding him to watch his actions.
Oh— um, it’s just a lousy sketch. It’s really bad, I don- please don’t look at it, says the boy. Yuuri, is what Viktor remembers him introducing himself as. Yuuri’s hands fly forward to grasp at the edges of the paper, but Viktor has it out of his reach easily, gazing intensely at the rough lines of pencil against paper.
It’s ugly, Viktor says, and his manager’s jaw drops. Viktor Nikiforov would never say something like that. But Viktor would.
This time, he feels his manager’s disapproval in the form of a sharp jab to his side, and Viktor knows that he’s lucky since only pictures are being taken, no videos.
The boy flushes red, his face apologetic.
I- I was just interpreting things my own way. I’m sorry…
Viktor’s manager rushes forward to hush the boy. He tells him that Viktor’s sorry, and that it’s not an ugly sketch.
But oh, it really is. Viktor scans the lines that form his figure. His Stammi Vicino outfit is sketched roughly, and so is his figure, but that’s it. The rest of the paper is covered in fierce black scribbles, almost like a dark cloud, and that cloud starts to merge with Viktor’s head, forming a ghoul-like face that looks absolutely miserable.
You don’t actually look like that! I mean, it was just how I saw you, Yuuri says, before his face turns even redder. Not that I think you’re ugly! Yo-you’re beautiful.
His words echo in Viktor’s mind.
It was just how I saw you. It was just how I saw you. It was just how I saw you.
Viktor gives Yuuri a smile. A real smile.
Don’t be sorry, Yuuri. You’re completely right.
yo waddup rmb my headcanon from before LOL well i wanted to write a short little drabble so here it is!
An apology and an explanation
So I received message regarding the comics that I’ve posted on Tumblr, and I’d just like to talk a little about them.
I’d link you to my comics but for now I’ve deleted them to try to rectify the issue, but I thought that an explanation post would be needed too since I can’t delete all the reblogged posts and it’s still circulating. I’ll provide screenshots below so you know what I’m talking about.
The person basically asked whether or not I got permission to use the images I used in my comic. My comics basically looked something like this:
As you can see, I took existing Yuri on ice images from the anime, and edited them to make my comics. It was very clear that I didn’t draw any of the images inside, and I also used photoshop brushes to edit and add some of the effects.
To me, I felt like they were basically edits, and I wanted to just create a harmless comic for people to enjoy.
However, I also used other images as well, and here is what I’d like to talk about in this post. I took images from comics like Ajin, and a webcomic called Siren’s Lament (see below).
Below are more examples of the pages from all three of my comics where I’ve used other people’s work (there are more but these are just a select few), and the credit I included in my post at the time:
As you can see, I honestly had no intention of claiming any credit for the work. However, I understand that my intentions really don’t mean shit, what matters was what I actually did.
I forgot about the comics, and recently even reposted the Yuri Plisetsky one (with the Ajin bankbook) without credits. I just want to give a quick explanation (which I’m aware is no excuse, but it’s just my explanation) for why the repost lacked the same credits. I saw the comic pages on my laptop, felt like reposting them for #YuriPlisetskyWeek, and did so, without going through the pages. I forgot that I had used work outside of Yuri on ice and so did not credit. That is completely my fault. I have deleted the post.
However, the biggest problem here is that I had not actually gotten permission from the respective artists to use their work, and I’m sorry for that.
I understand that there is no excuse, and the logic is very simple: you use someone’s work, you ask for permission. However, when I created the comics a year ago, I honestly had no such awareness. I was new on tumblr, didn’t interact much with the creator community, and didn’t know this. At the time, I felt that I had given credit and I clearly was not pretending that any of it was mine, and I felt like it was just like edits that other people do on Tumblr.
I want to say that I understand that this is completely wrong.
Now, having spent more time here, and having spoken with many artists and reading posts on plagiarism, etc, and ironically being very disgusted by art thieves, I know very well that what I did was really just art theft.
However, I completely forgot that I had used other people’s works. In my memory, the comics were just edited Yuri on ice screencaps. It was only until another user messaged me privately about whether or not I received permission (and I saw a comment left on the comic at the same time) that I realised I had really just stolen someone else’s work, and I’m absolutely mortified.
I’m really sorry, and I’m just very embarrassed about the whole issue. I understand it very clearly now that there is no excuse, and that the matter is very straightforward. Simply crediting people when they don’t even KNOW that their work is being used is not okay, and it’s still art theft. I’ll be contacting the creators soon to apologise, but I also wanted to apologise to the community.
I have many friends who are artists on here, and I would never want the same to happen to any of them. I understand that it’s frustrating, devastating and a huge rip-off, and I’m mortified that I actually did the same to other people. Like I said before, I can’t get rid of the reblogged posts, so it’s no doubt still going to be circulated, so I wanted to at least make a post to explain and apologise for this matter.
I’m really, really, honestly, sorry. I was ignorant, and continued to stay ignorant about my own faults until it was directly brought to my attention, when I should’ve known better on my own. I hope that this clears things up and gives you guys a bit more insight into what happened and why it happened. I know it’s not an excuse, but I was really ignorant a year ago, and it won’t happen again.
tl;dr: I didn’t know what I was doing. I was new, ignorant, and didn’t care about getting permission, and basically stole art, and I’m sorry.
