July 5th. Happy Interdependence Day! #happyInterdependenceday My sister made this graphic after we talked about starting a new holiday - one that’s not about blowing shit up and getting wasted in order to celebrate historical warring that lead to a supposed independence and freedom.... that only select few enjoy in this country... based on skin color and economic advantage. Turns out others thought of a similar idea. Some wanted to do it on July 4th instead of the usual celebrations. Don’t really see that holiday ever changing. Some wanted to do it on September 12. That’s too close to September 11. So let’s use July 5th. It can be a day of celebration and reflection on how we are all connected (even those on the opposing side of important issues), how we need each to get through this thing called life. If we step into the shoes of another maybe we can gain empathy and compassion and try see things their way. Working together – because we ARE together – maybe there’s a hope we can get things done that serve all people. Just an idea. So HAPPY INTERDEPENDENCE DAY!!! xo Reuben & @alwys2bzy https://www.instagram.com/p/CCRjxFjjQ-s/?igshid=12lghvrgijs1q
