I have been wanting to make the haptic lab constellation quilt for a few years now. It is just so cool and come on look at it! I know it is going to be a huge time commitment but it is gorgeous.
Sew your own map of the stars. These quilt projects make great keepsakes and wall-hangings. Personalize your map with embroidered details
Well I finally bite the bullet and bought the DIY pattern for it. As I don't want to deal with trying to fight my printer I bought the version that comes with the pattern printed out. Also I like my quilts large, so I am going to be doing the queen sized version of it, approximately 72"x72" (183cm x 183cm).
Things I am still deciding on for this project.
I am fairly confident that I am going to go with glow in the dark thread. As the effect will be so worth it for the extra effort. I want to do the names of the constellations and the milky way. Weather it is a contrasting colour or not for them compared to the stars is undecided. Might do some swatches to decide.
French knots are evil and I refuse to do hundreds of them. I am thinking of replacing the french knots with tiny glass beads. Why yes I would rather sew hundreds of tiny beads than french knots.
The fabric I am very tempted to try out some ice dying to get a really cool mottled night sky effect. This will depend on how some small scale test turn out.
