CRS: Finding Friends Is Difficult

So I talked to them both, the Hufflepuff girl (Elsa) and the Gryffindor boy (Nick). They are nice, but quite honestly, I don’t think me and Elsa are going to be friends. She’s all weird and makes fun of me (and others, too) and already formed some girl-bond with another Haremoon student.

But Nick is great. Or, he could be. For some reason, he keeps apologising nearly every time he says something. I mean, he sometimes is a bit rude, but I think it’s just the way he is, simply missing the brain-to-mouth filter. Usually, I just find it hilarious.

Anyway, there is this girl, her name is Meena, she’s a fourth-year, and she’s so much into Quidditch, I’ve never seen anything like that. Apparently, Haremoon has never really had a Quidditch team because there just wasn’t enough of us, but the really wants to make it happen and I think I could try? And maybe Nick could, too. It’d be so cool to be on the team together!

Like, honestly, I’m not that good. I’ve only ever flown in the lessons with Madame Hooch last year. She did say I was good, though, so maybe I could stand a chance? I told Nick he wasn’t all that excited, well, a tiny bit, but I suppose that was because he said just a minute before that something about me being a half-blood and felt guilty.

I think I’m going to send a letter to mum and dad and ask them what they think about it. I guess they would know anyway, since it’d be them who’ll (maybe) have to send my broom to me.

CRS: Magical Muggle Stuff

Nobody told us doing the seventh year will be a suicide mission, okay. I’m starting to think getting through this one is going to be about as easy as the quest to destroy the One Ring. It’s been barely a week and I’m pretty sure I have never had this much stuff to do.

McGonnagall wants to do a big revision test on the whole of sixth year Transfiguration. Flitwick (that wonderful, wonderful guy) said that those who won’t get the Movement Spells right by the end of October will be leaving Charms. And the deadline for our final Muggle Studies project proposal is September 29 – Vinces has banged his head on something, or I’m dreaming.

I hope I’m dreaming.

Speaking of, I told Vinces about the Internet project, how I want to try and make it work in Hogwarts despite the anti-Muggle-technology barriers and concealments charms, and he agreed with all of it. Said it would be a hella lot of work, too, what with the lack of previous studies. I can’t comprehend that no one has ever tried to connect Hogwarts to the world wide web. I wouldn’t trade this place for anything, but it seriously needs connection. How are people supposed to get their basic Marvel knowledge if Wikias are not a thing?

(And Tumblr. And Facebook. Archive of Our Own. Paracelsus, even email would be a great step forward.)

So yeah. And to be honest, I think I might actually drop Charms anyways. Or at least I won’t take N.E.W.T. Charms. I still want to be in the classes because those theories and spells will very probably help me with the Internet project, but I don’t have it in me to do all the stuff that N.E.W.T. Charms require us to do (like mastering the above-mentioned Movement Spells).

Also, the magical creatures tracking system I have worked on during the summer didn’t come out right. It functions halfway. Apparently, some creatures can’t be traced because they naturally surround themselves with Concealing Charms, kind of like Hogwarts is hidden from Muggles. But I’ve been told this plaything of mine could be used in relation to the owl post, just to keep an eye on the urgent and important deliveries. I told Vinces and he was pretty excited. And very willing to help.

So maybe we’ll have our own special Amazon package tracking. I’ll count it as a win.

Stellarian Student Newspaper: Interviewing Aurora Sinistra

Professor Aurora Sinistra, Hogwarts’ Astronomy teacher and the head of Haremoon house, has agreed to talk with Stellarian about her decision to support Haremoon and become its leader. Our little chat is here for you!

You were one of the teachers that pushed the hardest for the disclosure of Haremoon. Why? After the Battle of Hogwarts, the school was divided. Many students and teachers felt that the reason for what had happened stemmed from the barriers and constrictions that having houses brings. We had several proposals for closing the school, but the vast majority thought that what we needed was a little bit of history with a little bit of modernity, more openness and possibilities. Bringing Haremoon into the light of the day seemed to me as the best idea – an opinion I still stand for now.

Before Haremoon’s disclosure, you’ve never shown interest in being the head of a house. Why did that change? The simplest answer I can give is that I felt certain responsibility after all the campaigning I did for Haremoon. I have known about its existence for several years and the idea of having a house that is open to anyone who wishes to enter was impossibly appealing to me. When the School Board and the staff came to the decision of enlightening the students of the possibility, the first thing that went through my mind was that I want to take part.

You had been teaching Astronomy before becoming the head of Haremoon house and still do so now. Has anything changed? Well, I certainly get more students trailing into my office (smiles). Quite honestly, the teaching part stayed the same. The difference between being a teacher and being a head teacher lies in the fact that students go to me with their paperwork and study choices, get send to me when disciplinary actions are required, and when they want to transfer. All of which means that I get to know the students better and have a chance to familiarise myself with their ideas and opinions. It’s been both entertaining and enlightening.

Finally, is there anything you’d like to say to those who think of transferring to Haremoon? First, make sure it’s really what you want because once you transfer, you cannot leave. And remember we are just another house – the common room is not fancier and the beds are not softer. But if you do decide to go, you will be wholeheartedly welcomed.
