Hello! You have been gifted the brain dump bug! Use when you want an excuse to talk about something that's been rotating in your brain!

The main question that’s been rotating in my brain:

The mystery of Inej Ghafa’s brother, Harij Ghafa.

He was first mentioned in s1 of Shadow and Bone, and I just wanna ask why.

What was the purpose? She didn’t have a brother in the books that we’re aware of, so what was the point?

In the context of the show, he was taken along with her. But wouldn’t Inej have mentioned seeing him in the slaver ship as well? Wouldn’t that have been her main motivation for hunting slavers so she could also try to find her brother?

I feel this is a very untapped resource, but how it is now, adding him was unnecessary, since his existence provides literally nothing.

Guys wtf I forgot Inej has a little brother in the show. Can you imagine how insufferable he’s going to be to Kaz? Can you imagine how insufferable Kaz will be to him?? Kaz was a little brother so of course he knows how to be more annoying. On the other hand, maybe it will be healing to finally be in the shoes Jordie was in all those years ago????? Just thoughts

in which jesper gets evicted and ends up finally having to tell his friends just how bad he's gotten again.

ch2: inej and the existence of brothers

“Jesper, this is Harij. My brother.”  Jesper’s jaw drops. “No way.”  “It’s nice to meet you,” Harij says, giving Jesper a little wave and a smile. “Sorry for dropping in like this.”  “Oh,” Jesper says with mild confusion, “I don’t live here, so I’ve got zero say. I’m just couch surfing.” Jesper’s eyes move back to Inej. “Should I- um. Should I leave?”  “No!” It’s more forceful than she’d planned and Jesper flinches, but Inej softens her voice fast enough. “No, you’re staying. We have an air mattress somewhere, and Harij is small enough to fit on the couch—unlike you.”  “Ah.” Jesper grins. “The beanpole privilege.” He is jittery, Inej notes, fidgeting even more than she remembers from when she last saw him.
