looking for a couple good novels/novellas, and some poems to check out?keep reading
firstly, to stay consistent with my username, Kafka on the Shore. If you haven't read Murakami before and are looking to get into it, definitely check this one out. Perfect if you’re interested in Magic Realism type novels, and of course, talking cats.
If you’re looking for a shorter read, Candide is fantastic. Most people have already read this, but until yesterday I had left it sitting on my shelf. Very funny, and definitely a good story. Depending on reading speed, could easily be completed in 2/3/4 hours if you aren’t distracted.
If you aren’t interested in investing a lot of time to a novel at the moment and want something simple, easy to read, and maybe for a younger audience, read The Little Prince. Although it’s mostly considered a children’s book, it’s decent in length (still short though) and I enjoyed it a lot. I’m not much for audiobooks, but I did enjoy listening to this one.
For short stories, one of my favorites has always been The Library of Babel, likewise to The Little Prince, audio for this is relatively easy to find and also very good! Can be read in around half an hour, and very entertaining.
Finally, in honor of Black History Month, one of my favorite poems, “I, Too” by Langston Hughes. Hughes is one of my all-time favorite poets, and my favorite from the Harlem Renaissance movement. Here’s a link to the poem, very short, check it out!
