🧬🌀harmonic charts for beginners🌀🧬
* note: i am a beginner with using harmonics myself! this is, i would say, a rather advanced concept. there’s still a lot i don’t know, and i’m mostly making this post to write out my own understanding of it so far. i just want to add to the conversation because there’s not a lot out there in western astro about harmonics! ** 2nd note: i’m applying the principles of this vedic astro practice to western tropical astrology, so some things i’m saying may differ from other sources! this is my understanding so far at the very beginning of using this technique :)
this is a method that’s been used in vedic astrology for a very long time. i’m pretty sure vedic astrologers have been practicing harmonic astrology for about as long as they’ve studied astrology itself! i could be getting my timeline confused, but either way it is a practice with a lot of history behind it and super pertinent information to studying your astrological life map ⭐️
the most important thing to know about the harmonic charts, is that they are based entirely on minor aspects. the whole point of a harmonic chart is essentially a “zoom” function on the natal chart.
the number harmonic is how much you zoom into your chart. it’s going to change the sign of your planets because the real focus is on the aspects. you can also read for signs, and i will explain that more in-depth in a later post, but for now i want to emphasize the aspects because that’s essentially the whole point of making a harmonic chart.
we have aspects right? sextile, square, trine, opposition. these are pretty basic divisions of a circle based on the 12 zodiac signs. however, there are also smaller, “minor aspects” that can be interpreted alongside our birthchart. when we use the harmonic chart, it stretches those small aspects out, it exposes them so that we can see them as if they are major aspects.
the last important thing i have to share about interpretation, is that some aspects are so strong in our birth charts that they continue to show in our different harmonic charts. pay extra attention to those aspects that appear in more than one, because this is the energy which is really helping to drive you. also, i don’t practice with houses because the house calculations are really confusing. but give it a shot if you want to!
and boom! just interpret them like you would your own natal chart. this is a new context for your birthchart! each number harmonic represents a different energy of your life and how that energy manifests.
the main harmonics i’ve been focusing on are the 5th, the 7th, and the 9th, so let me break those down for you all, and then i’ll be on my way ☺️
🦋5th harmonic chart: this is the chart of play. similar to the 5th house of the natal chart, but not fully analogous, this chart shows your relationship to your inner child. this chart will give you an idea of how you function as a creative individual.
☄️7th harmonic chart: this is the chart of enlightenment. the house analogy doesn’t really follow to the 7th harmonic chart, but this chart has a connection to jupiter. it is about expansive knowledge and the chart reflects our attitudes towards learning and opening our minds to a wealth of different ideas.
🎀9th harmonic chart: from what i’ve researched so far, this is a very important chart for compatibility in vedic astrology! my understanding of a general interpretation for this chart is that it shows our relationship to luck, and to good fortune. this also seems to be a chart which can represent our higher intuition and our higher self. the aspects of this chart reveal how we use our intuition in order to bring us closer to our best lives and our highest good.
so there you go! sorry for the long post, but i hope you like it! if there is an interest i can post how i find my harmonic charts on astro.com in the future 🥰
