I have been so enjoying this. Some years ago, I read Beauty and the Beast by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont, thinking it was the original story. Only after purchasing this, which I believed to be a beautified version of the same story to coincide with the new movie, did I realize that I had never read the full original version, which was written by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve. There are apparently three popular versions, so for anyone interested:
Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve wrote the original in 1740.
Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont rewrote an abridged version in 1756.
Andrew Lang rewrote another version as part of his The Blue Fairy Book, published in 1887.
P.S. I saw the movie yesterday, and it was INCREDIBLE!
