In the graveyard of St Michael’s Church in Monkton Combe, near Bath, lies the grave of Henry John “Harry” Patch, “the last fighting Tommy”. 🌹 Born in 1898, Patch died in 2008 aged 111. He was the last surviving veteran who had fought in the trenches of the Great War and the oldest man in Europe when he died. He did not discuss his WW1 experiences until after he turned 100. 🌹 You can find out more about Harry Patch’s experiences in the trenches of the First World War in Britain’s Last Tommies, by @richardvanemden19 - a tribute to a unique list of veterans. 📚 • #HarryPatch #History #Military #MilitaryHistory #BritainsLastTommies #WW1 #GreatWar #FWW #Graveyard #Bath #MonktonCombe #Somerset #Ypres #Passchendaele #Veteran #1916 #1917 #BattleOfLangemarck #Belgium #DukeOfCornwallsLightInfantry #GraveyardPhotography (at Monkton Combe) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGkN4Z3APiq/?igshid=10fndt3oahjes
