if I may ramble about assorted Spine Surgery Scene things as I am in a Spine Surgery Scene mood:

1) mensah needing both hands free to pull out the nerve fiber and just putting the scalpel in her mooouuuuuth.

babygirl you have been passing things back and forth with secunit and its hands were unoccupied. but no, of course you needed to put that TOTALLY NOT SYMBOLIC object between your teeth before getting your bare fingers all up in there. it even told you you didn't have to eat it out but you found a way. good work, madam president.

2) this fuckinggg shot of her so delicately pinching the severed fiber under a strong backlight.

she pulls out the tissue from this deep dark red and black pit and as soon as it comes free the camera flips around and gives it a halo. very classic "guiding light, saving grace, salvation" imagery, and it also reminds me quite a lot of this backlit sequence from the mind meld:

if YOU'RE a christ allegory and I'M a christ allegory then WHO'S FLYING THE HOPPER

3) the sequence of her watching it kneel down to plug in the nerve fiber and turn the power back on.

as it walks away she gets some perspective on the huge gaping wound she put in its flesh and she looks almost horrified for a second, like she's taken aback at the way the gash pulls and stretches wide as it brings its arms forward, and then that tension just melts away to a kind of giddy relief as it works and the lights turn on behind it. more classic light imagery, and some striking contrast between secunit's visceral fleshly humanity vs the stark inhumanity of how it doesn't react to the injury at all. I hope they managed to fit in some aftercare for each other en route back to the hab before the head explosion incident.

this morning I woke up from the worst sleep ever to 9 billion crows cawing right outside my window and the urge to hit a vape so strong I was scared by it which is cool and normal
