This is good to hear because before this post I only saw things that drove me away from grad school because I didn't want to become the lifeless soulless zombie consumed by insurmountable work and papers that were doomed to be rejected because I missed a crucial punctuation mark that my advisor let slide to weed out the weak and unworthy.
(whoa who dug up this ancient post of mine)
i mean, it is like that. sometimes it’s like that most of the time. but your passion and discipline for the field can come out on top, and you just learn to take the bad with the good. and there can be lots of good (as stated in that post).
we’re also not bound to academia for the rest of our lives either. if say after your 2-7 years in grad school you’re absolutely fed up with the hamster wheel of academia, there are so many other options. i for one am not staying in academia, and after a post-doc, my butt’s headed right for industry or govt. so even during the lowest of lows in grad school, i know that it’s only temporary, and “this too shall pass”.
