'Love us like you love our food.' I saw this quote from an article on @refinery29uk I read yesterday, and it really hit home. (full version 👉) I'm not great at articulating my feelings at the moment, so drawing has helped offload a little bit. I also feel that my personal experience doesn't need spotlighting right now, so I'm going to continue sharing stories, articles and resources that really need to be read in my insta stories. ❤️ Please know though that if you are also mixed Asian/other, and you've experienced racial transgressions big or small, that your experiences are valid and important. ❤️ . Also quick note: I've chosen to represent Thai food because I am Thai, but this carries across all ESEA ❤️ . . . . . . #stopasianhate #stopasianhatecrime #hateisavirus #asianyouth #bothnothalf #illustration #illustrator #art #artist #illustratoroninstagram #artistoninstagram #digitalillustration #drawing #digitalart #asian #thailand #esea #thaifood https://www.instagram.com/p/CM0Om_zDV3V/?utm_medium=tumblr
I'm doing this on mobile, so I'll try to add ID tags later, but I want to get this out to our followers now.
TW: Gun violence, violence against the AAPI community.
Eight people were killed yesterday in a shooting spree that targeted Asian women in Atlanta, GA. Three spas were hit, six of the victims were Asian women, yet it's "too early to say" that the shooting was racially motivated (but we know the truth).
You can read more about it here:
Suspect arrested, says killings were not racially motivated; police say it is too early to declare this a hate crime.
Even though we spend a lot of time on this blog talking about anti-Black racism, earlier this month we were discussing intersectionality and it would be remiss of us not to call out the up-tick in anti-Asian racism and corresponding violence in America. Anti-Asian racism and violence and anti-Black racism and violence stems from the same source: white supremacy.
I'll post this whole thread on a separate post, but something Imani Gandy said on Twitter makes perfect sense:
Just something to consider.
Action Items:
Spread the word about #HateIsAVirus
If you have it, there are also other organizations that you can donate to:
From funds to help struggling businesses to community-enrichment organizations.
And if you cannot donate, that's okay, please still signal boost.
Last but not least, the most important thing you can do is use your voice!!! Call out anti-Asian racism when you hear it/see it, raise awareness, and educate yourself on history.
This is a resource; members of the AAPI community are welcome to add comments/resources that have been useful/any mutual aid resources that need attention or boosting/etc. Everyone else is encouraged to reblog and signal boost, but let's keep the notes clean on this one.
If you feel the whataboutism itch, I believe there's a cream for that called Keeping It To Yourself™️.
Happy #AAPIHeritageMonth! To celebrate we’re dropping the first #Rufio #NFT! It’s with @nft4good, they’re the first cause-based NFT auction platform. “For our first charitable campaign, we are minting 88 influential Asian-American Pacific Islanders as digital cards to be auctioned off as NFTs. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the NFT4Good Donor-Advised Fund to support AAPI organizations and community-based non-profits active in the national #StopAsianHate and #HateIsAVirus campaigns.” https://nft4good.com/ (link in bio) https://www.instagram.com/p/COVybKeAvC8/?igshid=3sugvcyo4d71
