It’s so interesting when people say Reid is not canonically autistic or think viewing him that way is just a head canon because it was not confirmed in a way they find satisfying. Both the writers and Matthew gave Reid neurodivergent traits with the intention of showing that he is autistic. They aren’t ‘perceived’ autistic traits. They are autistic traits which he was given on purpose.
#I feel like this is worded terribly#but what I’m essentially saying is that he’s written to be an autistic character#that was the intention of the writers#there are characters who have traits associated with autism but that wasn’t what the writers had in mind for them#i.e fitz from agents of shield#he’s socially awkward#hates change#is very interested in monkeys#and flaps his hands#which are all things associated with autism#but the writers didn’t give him those traits because they wanted him to be seen as autistic#it was on ‘accident’ so to speak#but with Reid it wasn’t#anyway i’m done now#criminal minds#spencer reid#autistic spencer reid
