This took me around 16 hours done in a whole month (to not overwork my hands hahah) I'm really proud of it! This is a young Hathys in his natural environment :]
These’ll probably be jossed the instant the next game comes out and I doubt anyone will care in the first place but I wanted to get these down so
Before the Knight arrived:
- the kings ruled the card kingdom (singular) together and cooperated to keep it running
- there were multiple king/queendoms in the dark world. the knight helped the spade king take over them as well as the card kingdom
- the great board was one of the separate queendoms in the dark world
- the castle town you first meet ralsei in is the remnants of the kingdom he was the prince of
- i’ve seen a ton of work imagining what the ‘queens’ might look like, especially the spade queen, but I hc that the ‘queens’ were the rulers of the great board, not a part of the card kingdom. the kings are not married
- places in between kingdoms were no-man’s land, where anyone could travel peacefully. mostly inhabited by the puzzle piece themed monsters
- jevil and rouxls were both servants of the card kings but not directly beholden to a specific one. they were meant to stay impartial and act as advisors, amongst other jobs
- seam was from the same kingdom as ralsei before leaving
Other HCs:
- all the card suit themed monsters are actually the children of their respective king. diamonds and hearts have lots of kiddos while spades and clubs just have lancer and clover respectively
- the diamonds and hearts kings both like pampering their kids/subjects. diamonds likes treating them to nice things and hearts prefers spending quality time with them
- as we saw, the spades king doesn’t really like lancer and i hc he and clubs only had kids out of duty
- clubs isn’t a great dad and was pretty paws-off but he did at least give clover good caring babysitters. who may or may not have just been some willing rudinns and hathys.
- since basically every monster on the great board was white i’m pretty sure we only traveled through a part of the board on the white queen’s side. it’s probably much bigger than we saw
- the chess themed monsters are not directly related to their queens like the card monsters
- dating someone from your own king/queendom is kinda stigmatized, and taboo for the card kingdom (for obvious reasons, they’re all siblings or step-ish siblings)
Quick reminder that these are all grade A self-indulgent headcanons and i fucking know they have no evidence, let me have some fun
