Good news babes- I finished chapter 5, I ended up deciding to put the final scene (still in progress) into the next chapter, so it’s done! It’s not going to be super long, but I think it uses its word count well. The good news is this chapter took so long to write because I wrote so many scenes I ended up cutting from it, and those scenes will be incorporated into future chapters, those should hopefully take less time. I’m also playing with the format and structure, and hoping by being willing to publish shorter chapters (4000ish words) I will be able to post more frequently, and be more effective with the words I use.

"And you were the voice of Shim?" Mickey asked trying to find out everything that led up to the tourist wearing Ian's face.

"I suppose it's a karma of sorts after all, which I didnt know Shim dabbled in, but it's Shim after all." Ian grinned wildly.

"What is?" 

"You being here, I helped those kids,  Shim brought you back to me."

Mickey studied Ian's face, mentally noting to check what dosages the infirmary started him on before he started baptizing people in the showers.

on my poll blog it looks like I might be getting some more people interested in shaman king so for my own sanity I'm making this

pros cons and differences between shaman king versions (manga and anime)

going to try to be as neutral as possible because I do have my own opinions no one murder me. also I am but one guy and though I am insane about it I have only been here for like 2ish years tops so I probably missed something

starting with: original manga run:

this was a lie I tricked you I have not read the original manga run so idk shit. I recommend kanzenban instead

kanzenban manga:

came out several years after the original manga run, "complete edition" with true ending, more chapters, and some updated art (I think???). takei's original vision for the story (or as close as we'll get), imo the best version (I didn't grow up on 2001 nobody kill me), pretty coherent story and themes with mostly superficial inconsistencies (timeline). has some bad writing/design choices that persist throughout every version. artwork is gorgeous and it's the "true version" so I highly recommend this version

2001 anime:

first anime adaptation. came out before the original manga was even finished so it is wildly divergent and includes a lot of filler. depending on your tastes this is either a great asset or a dealbreaker. I'm a fan personally put those guys in Situations. hits most major plot beats (although in it's own way) and has a very unique style. suffers very much from Being Made In 2001 so some things have aged especially poorly in this one. has only gotten a 4kids english dub so if you only watch dubs and want to watch the good version you're probably fucked on this one.

2021 anime:

anime adaptation of the full kanzenban manga. animation is a bit off model sometimes and it's only 52 episodes (should have been 64) so it's. Rushed. covers the kanzenban plot very accurately aside from a bunch of cut scenes (which were desperately needed to make the pacing not shaman king 2 fast 2 furious). if you have no time I recommend this one! also actually has a decent dub (certainly compared to 2001. 4kids dub you're hilarious but rip)
