Got two for you for that ask meme thing; Clint/Alex aaaaand Herchfaunt(hope I spelled that right)/Ayemeric (gawd I hope I spelled that one right two. I’ve listened to my sister wax poetic about these two and a third she calls stinky [affectionately] but I can never remember how to spell their names)

I haven't considered Clint/Alex seriously (besides seeing your lovely snippets about them) so let's try to work this out in real time! And I'll use both question sets since I'm neutral on them (minus the why do you/don't you like it questions)

What are your favorite things about the ship? I think there's cool potential there of the contrast of the (seemingly) popular guy with the loner, especially when they find that Alex is quite lonely himself too. Both he and Clint are trying to fit themselves into a mold that they're not necessarily satisfied with, and they both have doubts about their place in the world and their self worth. I think finding that common ground would mean a lot, but the trouble is getting them to talk long enough to figure out that they have those feelings in common.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? I think much like the last one of these I answered, it's not popular enough for me to know what's the main opinion people have, but I will always say that these characters are treated way too harshly and people should be more open-minded when approaching them even if they wouldn't interact with people like that irl

What would have made you like it? I'd need to see more interactions between them, I think! One criticism I have about stardew valley is that, barring a few notable examples, most of the townsfolk don't interact which is a shame!!! We as fans can imagine how it would go, but it helps a lot to see how characters interact in canon and to use that as the jumping off point. Both Alex and Clint are left alone (save for Haley and Emily interacting with them, and the farmer of course) so it's always hard to gauge how they would interact with other characters when the game gives so little to go on with that 😭

Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it? I think there's definitely potential there, if they could just have a good reason to ever get to know each other! I think this is how I feel about a lot of ships, if you can give me a believably premise for how they connect, I'm sold haha

Those fake french elezen names are a doozy, aren't they? But yes I do like Haurchefant/Aymeric as a ship, and I assume stinky is Estinien? 😂 I like them as a throuple too!

What made you ship it? They're both so enthusiastic when they talk about each other! Honestly, I started playing the game during the ps3 open beta but had taken a break partway through Heavensward, and when I came back the only memory I had of Aymeric was "he's Haurchefant's homeboy, and Haurchefant is my cool friend so by extension Aymeric must be too" 😂 which is crazy to think about considering where I am now with these characters.. lol But yeah they get along so well already in canon, and although the english localization downplays it, I found out later that they are actually good friends canonically too!! They are united for the same cause and would kill and die for the other, and where Aymeric is serious and keeps his hope quiet and slow-burning, Haurchefant wears his passion and enthusiasm and hope on his sleeve! So I think they are a nice contrast to each other!

What are your favorite things about the ship? I think they have a great support system in each other, which is huge in a place as uncertain and unfriendly as Ishgard! I think even once Aymeric gets in his position as Lord Commander, Haurchefant is eager to still keep him active and engaged with what's happening outside the vault and the congregation, making sure he has all the knowledge he needs in order to meet their shared goals.

When you add Estinien into the mix, it's just another contrasting personality with the same shared goal, which is something I really love about Aymeric/Estinien on their own, and also when it's Aymeric/Haurchefant/Estinien. It's the camaraderie of it all, of believing so deeply and passionately in something that these very different people can unite on it and find this strong bond together 🥺

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? This isn't a bad thing, just to preface, but I think a lot of Haurchefant stuff leans into how much of a flirt and kinky person he is, and I'd love to see other aspects of him explored especially when in tandem with Aymeric and/or Estinien! I'm sure there are fics like that and I just haven't read them, but Haurchefant's enthusiasm for goodness and justice (true justice, not just what the inquisition deems so) is just as much a part of him as his enthusiasm for sex and physical connections, and I'd love to read some more stuff where that's the focus for him!

Continuing to post old stories I shared privately. The elezen trio get to be a little too friendly with each other as a treat to me personally.

He Will See

"It's like that *every* godsdamned time!" Aymeric hisses, scowling into the slop that was probably.... mashed popotoes and diced meat of... some kind. Recruits of the Temple Knights got the dregs, while those of more vaunted status got real food.

Technically, he was one of them by his "birthright", adopted though he was, but he had carefully chosen not to claim any of those privileges.

For one, it would be more unifying if he scaled the ranks as he was, with skill and wit, than with his pedigree.

For another, the male beside him could not partake in such things himself, and Aymeric had stayed as close as he could without being tangled in the high house politics that came with his complicated circumstances of birth, from childhood till now.

Haurchefant rolls his eyes and shoots his friend a look that says were they not in the middle of the crowded mess he would smack him upside the head.

Technically, Haurchefant should not be here. Those with a marked pedigree such as his were usually relegated to basic infantry with no upper mobility possible in their careers, besides the fact that he was younger by nearly half a decade, so he should also have been one rotation *behind* Aymeric. They had even shared a tearful goodbye when the call had come for the raven haired elezen once he came of fighting age.

But of course, Haurchefant, never one to do things by halves, had gotten himself into an absolutely *ridiculous* situation that involved taking a damn arrow to his arm like it was nothing and protecting a friend from a kidnapping with little more than a badly chipped knife and the gumption of ten fully grown knights put together.

Fast tracking your way to full Knighthood through acts of valor and completely skipping the three years of basic training and two years of novice squadrons was certainly a hell of a way to catch up, if nothing else.

Even if it was only temporary. Just enough training for him to take a commanders position with house Fortemps, then he was back out. The unfairness of him still being kept from climbing as high as he surely could have otherwise stung Aymeric's sensibilities, though Haurchefant preferred to speak at length on just about *anything* else.

The silvery blue haired male tossed his cutlery down onto the clean platter, and damn him how had he gotten so good at cleaning his plate at only six months in the corps when Aymeric still had to carefully measure himself before every meal to get it down, before gracing Aymeric with a proper answer.

"I'm not sure what exactly you are expecting, my friend." He says with a sigh, though his expression is more amused than anything else.

"That one is famous, or infamous rather depending on how you look for it. Dedicated, skilled, ruthless on the fields and in training alike, loyal-"

"-Good qualities that all fighting for Ishgard should strive for." Aymeric interrupted Haurchefant, but the male just smiled and waved his hand as if brushing away his fellow knight's words like so much smoke.

"-Standoffish, disobedient to his teachers, and antisocial to an impressive extreme." He finished before glancing at Aymeric with those deep blue eyes, so different from Aymeric's own light blue. Cold ice against warm summer skies.

"Why ever you are *so* interested in him that you absolutely *need* his attentions I haven't the faintest, besides perhaps how pretty he keeps that hair of his, refusing to cut it off despite that being the military style *is* an interesting incongruency to the rest of his personality. Don't tell me you've been dreaming of-"

Aymeric slammed his own cutlery down with enough force he made Haurchefant's dinnerware shudder on the worn mess table, and more than a few curious eyes glanced over for the barest second to see if a fight was about to break out. When it became clear it was not, they lost interest once more.

"We *are* in a public space." He pointed our, a faint blush on his cheeks. A matching one quickly graced Haurchefant's face, though paired with the lowering of his silvered lashes and the smug grin on his face, it gave off a very different impression.

"Haurchefant I am serious. I have a-"

"Reputation. I know. Forgive me, I'll save it for *later* for you." He said with a soft chuckle before propping his head up on a gauntleted hand, ignoring the fact that Aymeric fairly lurched at the promise in his voice and had to fight against the flush creeping down the collar of his haubergeon.

If only he didn't need to be so concerned with what people saw he would- be getting very distracted right now.

"*Is* that why though?" Haurchefant asks, tilting his head further in his hand so that his hair slides just over one eye and he has to use a puffed breath, expertly angled, to shift it back away from his vision.

Aymeric decides it is best for him to look away, forcing a spoonful of the... mush... into his mouth, swallowing the substance that mostly just tasted of salt, and only salt as he thought on how to reply.

"No. Well, maybe a little but. No." He says finally, his voice quieter, causing Haurchefant to need to lean in to hear him over the din of the mess.

"He- He seems so dedicated, so sure of what he wants in life, and how he wants to be perceived, and... yes maybe his hair is rather pretty, I saw it down once. I swear it actually sparkled against the snow in the training yard."

"Oho, my friend! Some may think you have a type." Haurchefant chuckled, his free hand brushing lightly at his own silvery blue before slapping Aymeric about the shoulders, though he got more serious afterwards.

"This will be a test of endurance you know. How long have you been trying to catch his attention? This man who doesn't even remember his own squad leaders name."

Aymeric stares into his food. "A year and some few months." He admits. "Since he was transferred into our unit." His unit, naturally, being the one for rookies with no small amount of talent. Aymeric himself had only been pulled into it two years past from the normal ranks of defenders. Haurchefant, also naturally, was disinvited for the ever ridiculous reason of pedigree.

"But as I was saying, every time it is the same. I give him my name, he nods, and I can practically see him throwing everything I said onto the ground as he walks off, and I am going to need to give him my name *again*. He denies every offer of drinks, every question on sparring, any exchange of information. Sometimes, I feel I might get further talking to the training dummies." Aymeric knew his frustration was bleeding through the polished calm he had been focused on practicing recently. He didn't much care just at the moment, he could practice it more later.

"And yet, you keep trying, don't you?" Haurchefant says, and he was still amused, that soft smile still on his face.

"Something will give, whether it is you or him first. Well." He shrugs the best he can with his elbow on the table to hold up his head.

"But Ishgard was not built in a day, friend. Have you tried sharing in his interests?"

"What interests, Haurchefant?" Aymeric says with a sigh. "He doesn't read, he doesn't play any of our sports, hell, he doesn't even correspond with anyone, not a single letter in or out the entire time he has been here, I *asked* to see if I could wheedle my way into finding out who he knows outside of Alberic, his dragoon trainer. To be a student of the former Azure he has to have *some* influence and yet." He throws up his hands and finally shoves the platter of half-eaten food away to slouch forward and put his head on his chain clad forearms. Not necessarily the most comfortable, but shutting out the world visually was the only thing he could think to do at the moment.

Haurchefant hums soothingly, his hand still on Aymerics back, following him as he slouches forward. He knew the other elezen likely wanted to pat his back soothingly, but that was not a knightly behavior and he *did* work to keep from damaging Aymeric's shiny reputation. Would that he would have care with his own, though Aymeric supposed he saw no point when it was already tarnished through no fault of his actions.

"He will see." Haurchefant says, and in the dark, with Haurchefant's confidence in his ear, he just about believed it.

"Your unit is heading out after this, are they not?" He says next, changing the topic to try to raise Aymeric's spirits.

"Ah, yes." He lifts his head and shifts his arms to prop his chin up on his gauntlets instead.

"To the Ever Lakes. Supposedly a dragon around there. Far too close to the neighboring hamlets for us to just let it be."

"A chance for glory then." Haurchefant says, and winks.

"Mayhap 'tis a slaying that will get his attention on you, hm? Surely with a few well timed arrows you can manage that. I've seen you in the ring, highest marks so far."

It was true. Aymeric's archery was the best in the entire garrison, bar none. He smiles and allows a small chuckle of his own to leave his lips, making Haurchefant's own grin widen. "Either way, I'll be awaiting you here, whether to comfort you in defeat once more, or cheer you on for finally winning his attention, perhaps with his company as well?"

Aymeric starts, and Haurchefant laughs loudly at the renewed blush spreading over his face.
