Hey guysssss guess who isn't in a ditch! (to be fair, did a lots of digging tho, lots of outside works. garden got out of hibernation mode and so did I whoooo.)
Anyway I was thinking hmm how to get back into the swing of things..? Boom, in comes @/sariphantom with a list. I see list. I get idea. Dunno if I can swing it like my brain cooked it up or nah but imma try? Might skip a prompt or two, will absolutely not be able to stick to daily because I already got distracted on the 1st by Snake and then the "simple" idea for the first artwork pivoted into "make it sparkle" on the 2nd instead of being finished, so... lets see how it goes :D.
Here is the post with the list btw: https://www.tumblr.com/sariphantom/812023912688910336/a-little-late-but-rise-april-2026-list-is-finally
Yeah so ofc when I saw this post I just HAD to draw this. So yah credit to melmili for that banger bc hell yeah this trope and also... fucking take a break Leo (specifically 03 in this case).
Adjusted the middle one a bit bc Raph would be gearing up to knock Leo out and probably tie him to a bed, maybe on a farm, who knows.
Behold, yearning lesbians.
Elizabeth on the left and Kendria on the right.
The secretary bird bean sí and the quagga unicorn, the Mistress and her guard.
Kendria turns to Eliza like a flower to the sun and never strays far from her.
The pieces were a bit complicated due to me forgetting how fineliner & the waxy residue of coloured pencils (in this case watercolour pencils) do not mix. So I want you to know & understand that the final lineart layer was done not with fineliner but with an inkbottle & very fine brush. Yes. all that hair. Have a step by step..
I have realized since then that i can do my fancy linework after colours and then add depth with coloured pencils afterwards btw. Though I understand why back then this did not occur to me bc my process was always sketch - soft linework - colour step/s (depending on if mixed media some media has to go before others like copics first then ink colours) - dynamic linework - white highlights. But yeah no, figured out how to work the watercolour pencils in without dulling the black lineart or getting smears since then.
That invite goes to her female bodyguard and her only btw.
Wouldn't recommend approaching this one either, she's a Bean Sí (with an exceptional work-life-balance) and one does not wanna mess with the síde.
Anyway that was the first time I drew Elizabeth and handdrawing the lil background decoration was a bitch and a half XD Did the initial drawing on separate paper and then threw that on a light table beneath the main image to repeat it.
I do miss working with Eliza and the rest of the InBetween characters sometimes but that story along with my other oldies is on hiatus for now. It's like, I love these stories a lot you know? But I also recognize those all are deeply tied to different moments of my life and the last time I worked with for example the InBetween story I was a different person. Lot has happened. I might swing back around at some point but for now my focus is on my current projects (Raptamei, Lay your Hands on me) and that is okay. Inspiration comes and goes.
First time using the new watercolours from W&N I bought for a full piece. Also. On proper cotton paper, which indeed does make a difference in what you can do with the colours and flow.
Been a bit of a hot minute since I drew myself but I make progress in getting things back in order that fell to the wayside in the last few years, and I do feel more and more like myself lately so... here we are.
I used a flat bladed brush it kinda has an angle, gives good control on flow idk how to describe it, dabbing that one on the paper while doing the halo and the background did allow me to build up pigment nicely. I once.. did a piece with Tangeris in it that looked so lovely when wet and then sadly lost some of that vibrancy when it dried so I had to go in a couple of times (and letting it dry in between) to build that back up but I was unable to get the same level mainly because 1. paper could not take more & 2. that one was done with inks and back then I was still learning how to balance them cuz they are already died liquid and there is a huge difference between drawing inks (which I rarely use) and writing inks (who need to be a kind of way that they do not clog up an ink pen) and I used both in that old piece and that was a mistake at the time XD.
Ah but i learned and its kinda nice that even tho watercolours are a different ballpark in a way than inks that those skills with the inks i got are very much transferable.
Just gonna need to push myself into a bit more loose techniques now. Love the controlled way I do things but I wanna let go a little too.
Also need a heatgun, screw waiting for shit to dry my brain cannot handle it.
Also fun fact, I do not own warm grey in my palette of watercolours. i had to mix em up for Tangeris fur and if you do not know how to mix up warm grey it's like... take this burnt sienna and ultramarine blue.
Or paynes grey and raw umber (which I did) maybe a lil yellow orchre. Too yellow of a tint? Mix in some lavender colour. Greenish tint? Some light pinks got you.
Anyway the shades I mixed up to colour him match my copics for him to a T (i use copics for my references bc its easier and less mixing involved) so I am very happy with the results.
